Sri Lankan team becoming a joke. Biggest mistake they did was giving the captaincy to Malinga. He is not captaincy material. Team in disarray

This innings makes me feel a lot more confident about Nicholls being reserve top-5 batsman. In previous ODI innings he's been bogged down far too easily.

And there's the hundred! Congrats.
Yep, it’s good depth that’s for sure. You’d have to think Nicholls would make most international teams playing XI so good it’s problem to have.

Would anyone else be adverse to giving him a few innings up top? Needless to say Munro isn’t working, maybe give Nicholls a run up top. Noticed he opened for Cantubury earlier this summer

Of all the various options proposed when a replacement for Munro was discussed several pages back, this was the one I disliked least. It's getting pretty late in the piece to to try it. Though we could argue that if he's the reserve for every top-5 position, then he should have a go opening before then anyway, in case there's an injury.

If Munro bombs against India then he just can’t go to the World Cup, period. We’d be playing with 10 in that case (and probably 9 with Southee a likely starter) It’s not ideal but he’d probably be New Zealand’s best option, with either Young or Rutherford possible options maybe.... New Zealand can’t just stick with Munro because we haven’t tried anyone else over the last year.

Think we'll all be watching Munro's form very closely in that series. My feeling is he'll continue to scrape by, probably score a 70, a 40 and average 30 for the series. We would like more than that of course, but Worker & Phillips' poor performances have left Munro with no competition.

I'd give Nicholls a couple of chances opening against Bangladesh later in the summer. He could potentially be a mid-tournament replacement for Munro if he's stinking up the joint.

It would be interesting to see what happens if Munro does totally bomb v India though.

it's finally happening, the commentators have brought up the list of southees average by year. They genuinely sound slightly surprised.

The turn up and talk out of your ass level of research and analysis done by people paid to look in to and talk about this stuff is genuinely hilarious. Random CW members have been been talking about this stuff for years.

High level of swag from DM de Silva there - nails it through the offside off the leading edge and calls no

Yeah that's plumb, was liking the more classical approach from de Silva there, played some really good proper cricket shots, needed that partnership to continue on just a little longer

A couple of overs ago but 'edges fly for boundaries' is the unfortunate downside of Ferguson's extra pace.
Ferguson to de Silva, SIX runs, digs it in short, and Dhananjaya goes for the pull. Didn't quite get hold of it, but the pace on it was so much that it carries all the way over square leg
Ferguson to Dickwella, FOUR runs, quick bouncer and he goes for the pull. No control at all, it flies off the top edge, but it goes straight over the keeper for a boundary
And suddenly he's gone for 20 off 2 overs.

It's my love of Tim that earned that wicket. And that last one was presumably due to Neesham's twitter.
