Is Kohli better than Ponting?

It's fun to compare Kohli to greats of yesteryear who played 70 odd test with 6000 runs. Hammond and Harvey are 2. We still don't think of Kohli as having had a complete career and times have changed but where does he rank compared to those 2?
I'd say he's currently ranked besides a Hanif Mohammed.

Conversion rate is comparable to those of Hanif's time

Bit of a stretch to say Ponting's peak lasted till 2009. Ponting's peak ended with the 07 Ashes imo. Never really that great after that.
2000-2006 Ponting averaged 65 over 76 tests. He was phenomenal in those years. The best batsman of (most likely) the greatest XI to ever play tests together.

They are very similar in a lot of ways atm, except Ponting had a stronger team

if Kohli can average 65+ for another 5 years he will have Ponting covered

What kind of massive loser gets a nickname like king kohl? Pretty much confirms his small penis, or as I believe they say in Punjabi- shorty louder.

It's telling better players get called the people's champion, big daddy Kane or ross the boss. Root doesn't have a nickname yet because it would be unenglish

To be fair, the England players tend to get a Y at the end of their name as a nickname. It happens too much. Rooty, Cooky, Trotty, Stokesy, Broady, Swanny. Gone are the days of English creative nicknames like Giles being the King of Spain.

Nobody really uses tpc or big daddy kane outside cw though.

The indians in facebook comments sections actually call him sandpaper smith.

He’s nowhere near Hammond. Harvey is an interesting case, similar to a player like Viv with an early career peak and then a decline. I believe he’ll end up between these 2 players.

I think Kohli is ahead of where Ponting was after 70-odd Tests, stats-wise. CBA to look it up. Obviously has to keep it up for a fair bit longer to surpass him. His hunger for big scores and his incredible conversion rate should ensure he squeezes every bit of juice out of his peak years.

We'll have to wait and see, but I'm picking Kohli to finish up a superior Test bat to Ponting.

Ponting couldn't bat for jam in Indian conditions, and it's not like he had a tiny sample of games there. He batted 25 times and averaged just 26. Kohli's worst touring places (I'll ignore his 1 test failure in Bangladesh) are England & the Windies, where he averages 36, & I can only see his averages in those countries going up in the future.

Kohli is going to fall off a cliff IMO

He’ll start nicking off all the time once his eye isn’t as good
