I wonder if QDK struggles with his role of late; as has been mentioned, with a weak batting line-up batting at 7 is very different to an aggressive 7 in a stronger line-up. But batting him at 4 and 6 meant he needed to be a more responsible batsmen. So maybe ask what does he need to be doing in the team? That also comes down to the allrounder role if/when we get one. If Mulder (as example) bats 6 then QDK is a different player at 7, versus Mulder at 7 and QDK taking on the 6 role.

Are Mulder and Jason Smith still the top candidates for that all-rounder position?

It's odd because we we went to England really under the cosh. No Faf in first test, no AB, no opening partner for Elgar and it seemed all the pressure was on QdK after that test and from the moment we moved him up to 6 that is when the 'decline' started. I wouldn't say it is mutually exclusive necessarily but QdK is a very simple person (no disrespect) who definitely needs a clear mind for his role. So I definitely do think your line of thinking is vital for Quinny.

Dane Patterson playing in place of Philly while D.Oliver confirm in place of Lungi NGidi
Unless you've got some source I haven't seen, that's not correct. Olivier came into the squad in place of Ngidi, and will play because of Philander's injury. That injury resulted in Paterson being called up to the squad but he'll only play if they go with four seamers and no spinner, which is unlikely.

Be very interested to know what bowling combination Pakistan will opt for. I think if Abbas is not fit, Amir will return as the leader. Possibly Faheem has a chance of making the X1 too if they got for 5 bowlers

2 more days and real celebrations and holiday cheer can start....
Ha so true ! Nothing like boxing day for sport. Test cricket in New Zealand, Oz and us and being the football fan I am it really is the holy day for sports.

Could Faheem play as the 3rd seamer ? Perhaps a bit risky. Would go Amir, Afridi, Hasan as not sure they will want to go a batsman light.

Imam over Masood ?

Just saw this on the web.

Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani will visit South Africa on Monday, wherein he will invite Proteas to visit Pakistan for a bilateral Cricket series. Sources said that Mani is going to South Africa with a plan related to foreign teams’ tour to Pakistan. They said that Mani will meet Officials of Cricket South Africa (CSA) and ask them to send their male and female teams to Pakistan.

Sources said that the PCB chairman will also watch the Boxing Day Test between Pakistan and South Africa , beginning at Centurion on December 26. Pakistan Cricket Team is already in South Africa for a full bilateral series which includes three Test matches, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is).
Mani has said that his main priority remains to see the return of full international cricket to Pakistan and the country again hosting ICC events.

An official source in the board told PTI that Mani would also be persuading the South African cricket officials to continue their support for the return of international cricket to Pakistan as last year the World XI included several South African players.

"Mani will request them to also play a short limited over series sometime in 2019 in Pakistan, the source said.

Feel like Smith is more a long term prospect for a batting position (and maybe turning his arm a bit if needed), despite his early bowling returns.

Mohamed Abbas ruled out for Boxing day test,I wonder why he was picked on first place for the tour when you have Minefield of fast bowlers in Pakistan ?
