Great day for NZ in hindsight, even if they appeared to bat too long and without enough urgency at the end, but hey all's well that ends well.

What an absolute hammering. And I thought SL had done well to get 280 in the first innings.

NZ still should've declared half an hour earlier at least. Now Matthews, Mendis and Chaminda are going to get to settle in after a night of rest rather than a day in the field. Obvz that NZ are massive favourites now, but they're still going to have to play well tomorrow, this pitch is a belter and SL's batsmen are capable of taking advantage.

They did recover from 9 for 3 in the first innings, but the loss of Karunaratne is a huge dent. Capable of playing the Pujara role and letting other bat around him.

congrats to latham, that's a massive knock. batted for 2 days and didn't throw it away. can't ask for more than that.

Haha, Watling was out for nought and Grandhomme almost got a fifty today when the platform had been laid down very well.

and its the usual case of FFS being the first thing to come out my mouth after waking up and seeing the scorecard..Congrats to NZ who have batted brilliantly to put themselves right in the box seat. Like others, I thought we did well to get to a decent first innings total but I cant see us getting out of this one..i have to say I have been very disappointed with chandimals captaincy from the few hours I have seen..I don't understand why you don't give the new ball to our quickest bowler initially? Also the field placements are village, backed up by some lacklustre bowling, particularly from Rajitha.. He seems happy to let the game wander along and assume that something is going to happen eventually..there is a difference between being patient and being clueless..I hope that Mendis has now found his brain and sets himself to bat for a long time..

Yeah we're going to have to go back to calling Raval a myth if we want Young or Hay to play any time soon it seems.
raval's pained, nervous smile and clapping for lathams ton was almost heartbreaking lol

he's probably praying to the cricketing gods to hold his spot long enough to compete with latham away from the ski fields of subcontinental attacks in nz

He still scored 40 odd & is still managing a mid 30s average as an opener, without any big scores (proving he's relatively consistent at seeing off the new ball).

I can't see him being dropped anytime soon, certainly not in this home summer.

NUFAN

Raval acquitted himself pretty well in the UAE I thought, even if the figures don't show it. Given the long rope that was afforded to Guptill, Rutherford and Fulton before him he should be quite safe for now.

Well it will be a long year or so for the SL boys if the first 3 days here are anything to go by, reckon Pradeep and Chameera will be eyeing off a spot in the team as early as the next test

Would you make any changes to the current XI?

Thinking Pradeep needs to find a place somewhere (Rajitha hasn't done himself any favours despite being an able fielder :p) and hate to say it but Thirimanne should be opening, does Roshen Silva find a place in the team too? DM de Silva has done **** all lately

This is too easy for NZ

Gunathileke is an absolute hack of a batsman.
Your thoughts on the XI too?
