our coach on sl - "i don't know a lot about these guys yet"

you're the coach man. that's your job. half that team toured here 2 years ago.
Yeah not the best thing to admit. Also 'we're not taking them lightly' is always a cringe thing to say, like there ever was a question of taking an opposition lightly. Meh, bowl first and take wickets please.

Yeah whenever someone says "we're not taking them lightly" you can safely assume it's a lie. It's not like he'd say it if South Africa were touring.

One over in and where is te promised swing? Just the smallest amount so far, mainly that last ball. Got more in the UAE - it is a different Kookaburra they use over there, right?

southee is getting it moving, and gets a wicket too

boult's first over looked a little flat. here's hoping he works into it

If Gunathilaka gets to 30, NZ have failed.
And there we go. That looked likely when he didn't play straight to a similar ball earlier in the over and instead tried to bash it through mid wicket. Dumb idea against the new ball in NZ, obvs.

We might have your consignment of balls this year, or South Africa's, considering how much it's swung so far in Aus this year.

Gunathilaka is a genuinely appalling batsman.

Alright I withdraw my earlier complaint about ball not swinging - it's doing just enough. Good bowling Southee.

that's a beautiful channel

shows you why steve smith goes outside off so much to counter that channel (and when many batsmen feel nervous about it, they cover off stump like kane and watling did in the uae). he'd have blocked that.

not a great shot. can't even say he was surprised by the wide of the crease delivery since it was the second wide of the crease ball angled into the stumps in a row

I for once don't understand why we are shielding Chandimal. We might as well bat him in the top 4, if he's not keeping and allowing Dickwella in.
