Smith knows the value of a good single and has more tools than a batsman should legally have to achieve a single.

This is exactly it. When Smith is batting he's all of a sudden 40 and you're never quite sure how he managed to get the with no big shots. He simply milks the singles with ease until he's got his eye in.

Not sure if serious. But yes, if all our batting was firing. In a low scoring series, he is likely to leak easy runs, even though he has decent control for a leggie. Ashwin deserves another chance off the back of Adelaide though. Guy committed to plans while bowling and batting and was an important cog in the win.

There's room for him depending on how well Shami and Rohit go. In tests 3 and 4 you could play Bhuvi and Kuldeep for them. But yes that is right, our batting being so bad there probably wont be an occasion to play him. If somehow we started scoring runs and a flat deck was offered for the last test, then he'd be a good variation.

Hypothetically, is it at all possible that Warner and Smith could've been worked out by this bowling attack? Everyone's taking it for granted that the pair would've been all the difference, but they would have had to be fully switched on to negotiate this challenge. Ishant to Smith in particular would have made for great viewing.

Smith is near impossible to bore out if he's batting well, you need to really blast him out, ideally with vicious swing bowling (either conventional or reverse). He's happy to score 30 runs in a session or 50 in two sessions. The bowlers I've seen who have really given Smith significant problems (since 2013, at any rate) are Steyn, Anderson and Rabada - there's a common denominator there.

Warner - who knows. Could easily have completely blown the attack away and knocked them right off their rhythm or got out for ****-all doing something ill-advised.

It's probably enough while he's taking five per match and you're restricting sides to 300 or so max. It becomes fraught in part because Australia's batting is so bad.

Starc adds with the bat too. It's no reason to pick a bowler as such but it's a factor when you consider his competition.

What makes you think Kohli wouldn't have averaged 50 overseas had he played in UAE ? Overseas average of both Kohli and Ashwin suffer because of not being able to play in UAE.

Smith doesn't average even 49 runs if u remove his runs in NZ

I don't think really anyone thinks he's clearly the best since Bradman. There's no doubt he's a freak though and pre-ban he was at a level very few players reach.
