Very good article a couple of years back on ESPNCricinfo on that. Yorkers are actually a bad choice for most bowlers because the margin for error is so small. The exception was Malinga whose low arm release gave him more leeway...

Before the start of the last 8 overs with Maxwell and Carey going, and given the death overs Australia had, I feared for Steyn. Never has been a great LO bowler, especially not at the death and felt if this match was to go Australia's way, it would be his 2 overs that would change it. Relieved and happy to see him get Carey and seal the match almost. Boy does he want to play that World Cup.
