I've been advocating for Head to remain but he is so out of touch at the moment we really can't persist much longer with him.

He's been worked out by RSA, but his 3 previous ODI knocks were 50s vs England in England. Given how many others are struggling, it's hard to single him out. We do seem to have his number right now though...

Yeah Maxie has to score here. Otherwise we all look stupid for being so outraged about him never getting picked

It's so nice to hear this commentary team compared to the old channel 9 lot. Having women in the commentary is so refreshing.
best thing is this box talk about the actual cricket and warne excepted, don't bang on the same tired talking points all the time.

on women in commentary - isa guha is quality. she knows her stuff and has a great voice for commentary.

What worries me most about Australian cricket atm is the lack of fundamental game sense and techniques which help improve the game at every level.

Example A here - turning the strike over. Absolutely a fundamental skill in all forms of the game, especially when the boundaries aren’t flowing. Our fellas have somehow got to international level without being able to do it, which is ****ing astonishing.

Absolute basis of Australia’s rise to odi dominance was excellent fielding (this side is ****ed at that too) and running between wickets.

Weird how when you lose sight of the basics everything falls apart. Go figure.

This is exactly how RSA competed in the early 90's when we first came back; did not have the best players but quick singles and great fielding was the name of the game. The 438 game and T20 cricket has much to answer for.

Yep, if you turn the strike over, get 2-4 singles per over you don't need to find the boundary all that often to get there comfortably. Turning the strike over also messes with the bowling plans and you get more loose balls.

On the plus side, I think this is the right batting order for Australia. Carey down to 7, Lynn opening, Stoinis at 5 and Maxwell at 6.

Yeah but how do you play international cricket in the 21st century without being able to do it when it has been a thing since the mid 1980s?

It's these youngsters nowadays... not patience to learn the basics and do the hard work.

It is harder to rotate the strike when your range of shots is very limited. The SA batsmen seems to be much better at working often quite good balls around, while the Aus batsmen seem to rely on the pace of the ball and getting a solid hit in.

This is not over.

I would seriously give Markram a twirl for a few overs like Maxwell.

PS actually forgot Klaasen bowls decent offies as a keeper. Taken the gloves off for them.
