To me the #7 position is the glue. It gives the batsmen a chance to build a partnership before our tailenders and we just don't have it. D.Pretorius 14 off 32 sucked the life out of Millers innings and he hardly got strike and for some time now we haven't batted deep , it isn't any surprise AB and Miller or even JP hasn't been able to take us home when the pressure is all on them when they get in. The other side just collapases.
If South Africa could get 10 overs from JP and Markram you wouldn’t need the all-rounder. Though JP’s injury seems pretty serious.

Well, at least we've proved we can suck slightly less than the opposition on occasion. Also, a series is actually live going into the final match. Barely seems to happen these days.

I didn't quite agree with Finch's bowling changes, but it obviously worked today. I thought what he did was extremely brave - finishing both Cummins and Haze around the 40th and giving the last over to Maxiboi.

Hats off to the Aussies, they fought really hard for that win. I didn't think it was at all possible after setting the total that they did.

The tail is too long - Phehlukwayo or Morris need to come back in spite of Pretorius' bowling performance today.
Pretorius is the better batting allrounder! Phehlukwayo or Morris don't fix the tail problem, unless SA do not play all 3 first choice quicks.

PS: That statement regarding batting was for both teams...

And for the worries around the 6/7 position the truth is that when chasing a 230 total the top 5 should bet 90% of the work done, which was just as miserable a failure today.

pretty funny how the two medium pace trundlers from both sides ended up being the best bowlers in a match that had an assortment of the fastest bowlers in the world

I really liked them actually, it seems to me that if your first innings total is below par, at least getting your best overs before it's all done is a pretty good way of going about it.
