Guess it will be that team, possibly Broad for Leach which would be a mistake but we know how we like to shoot ourselves in the foot.

I think they'll bat Ali at 3, and hopefully Pope will play instead of Denly. Leach, Rashid and Ali with a little bit of Root will be more than enough spin. Not to say that they will be able to compete with the Sri Lankan spinners but its hardly likely that Denly will make it a more viable attack anyway.

Jennings
Burns
Ali
Root
Pope
Stokes
Buttler
Curran
Rashid
Leach
Anderson
Agreed that Denly's bowling shouldn't be a consideration. I've never understood the 'logic' that SC batsmen will be vulnerable to part-time English spinners.

I'd consider Denly's bowling if it helped for the overall balance of the side -- I could theoretically imagine a circumstance in which Sri Lanka were batting last and a different spinner of a different style could get a couple of breakthroughs -- but given they'll be picking at least two if not three better spinners including another leg spinner, it shouldn't factor in much. The existence of Ali and Stokes balances the side in such a way as to make Denly's bowling an irrelevance from a selection perspective.

I'd probably pick him anyway just because I don't think Moeen Ali should bat above five in Test cricket ever again, but his bowling wouldn't really factor in for me.

Sri Lanka's batsmen are vulnerable to many things believe me

Foakes wk, better up to the stumps than Buttler

parkinson (injured now)

I think eventually Parkinson (un Capped now -injured) will cut short Rashid and Leach's test career once he starts playing test cricket for England, he has great great potential to be a typical English spinner in next decades.

Farewell Test For Rangana Herath

Tricky business in Rory Burns selection on Tuesday but I would like Joe Denley/Jennings open for england.

SL under Chandimal far better side than Angelo Matthews.

Herath ,SL will missed for Second and third test as hearth's last test Nov 6-10.who starts his career here, at Galle.430 test wickets.I bet SL doctors the track to helps him and Akila

Galle track will always spin. You don't need doctoring to make it spin. To make it not to spin, yes, that will need a lot of doctoring.

There has been some very flat Galle tracks in living memory, but yes typically it will take spin from day 1 and significant turn from day 3, weather looks **** apparently so could be in for a shortened match, day 1 and day 2 looking very dodgy

Send Bairstow home now, if he isn't fit for the first test no point in risking him for the next one. Not like we aren't covered there.

Johnny not in good form too. Who will keep wicket tomorrow? Buttler ? ECB wants bowler in place of Johnny, not a good idea because they more confusing on Burns or Denley selection

Jennings good to open. Herath hangs his shoe
After Nov 10, SL must set track for spin, Anyway
Galle spin Friendly

Your team for 1st test? Between Root and Ben you need one specialist batsman.

Leach ? In test? I would pick both broad and Curran

I'm hoping for a top three of Jennings Burns Pope, as that may be the first Test match top three to form a complete newsworthy headline
