He was talking to other states tbf, but as a keeper-batsman it wa slonoted for him, and tbh he was basically told by the blokes from the other states that NSW will be so **** after the squad they initially announced that he’d definitely get a game
those blokes musnt be paying attention to how nsw pick their sides

How have penrith been getting on this season? A couple of mates of mine play for them and I used to get over and watch them a bit last time I was over

Anyone know of the reasoning for Hazlewood and Cummins to have played in 2 Futures league games and not in NSW's 2 shield games ?

Workload management. CA can't tell NSW not to bowl Hazlewood and Cummins for more than 9 overs a day, but they can tell the futures league team.

Off to a great start. Won their first three. First round against hawksebury who are hapless water buffaloes, but they backed that up with a home win against North Sydney and an away win against Manly, who were club champions last year. They're doing a number on Saints this round too - made 5/420 odd and have them 5/20 overnight at Howell Oval.

In other news, Bert out for 147 in the Futures League. Uppal really showing his wares with a fine 1 from 11. Nair at the crease now on a dozen with Hackney on 91 not out. 4/271 in reply to 6/443.

Your son would have to play as a bat though surely, Nevill ain't on the wrong road yet. Plus Senor Lenton is around and about.
Yeah for sure, but the other States are arguably all better served for depth of keepers than NSW.

I should say, he was basing his discussions on Cricket NSW having told him last year he was a keeper-batsman. This year they've told him they see him as a batsman only, which is why they asked him to open in first grade last weekend and in the first round of Futures League. He's batted three this game in Futures, and well, you know.

Not much point playing a game tho.

Could bowl their nine overs in the nets
Time in the middle is a thing now.

Nets are good but they really don't substitute for standing around in the field all day and bowling in a live match situation.

Not sure what to make of Tommy Andrews with the bat tbh, his recent grade and now Futures League form have been top notch but I can't help that get the feeling he would struggle at the next step up against quality bowlers. Case in point, he only made 1 in each of his two JLT cup innings and looked somewhat scratchy while doing so, then three days later went and belted a 70ish ball ton for the Peckers in first grade.

The ginger left-arm spinner? Never thought he could bat tbh. Only saw him against state bowlers though obviously

He's always looked absolutely rank with the bat in 50 over domestic stuff, but I remember seeing him make a few in Shield game and he looked good in that. Loved it through cover IIRC.

Robins must be close to the Shield side by now, takes plenty of poles (including Burgey's boy Bertmentum a couple of times) every time he plays FL stuff. Another right armer who bowls about 130ish, so nothing really different, but you can't argue with the results

I've said I'd go to Bert's dayboo Shield match. I bet he gets picked for next week when I'm in Fiji.

NSW Metro chasing 360 or so to win vs SA. Be interesting to see if they have a crack or just bat time.
