This is precisely the sort of pulsating, action-packed start the Tim Paine era deserves.

didn't take long for the moaning about the decks to commence #cryingozzies

it's the UAE. it's been flatter than my life since forever

There have been a lot of batting implosions this year. I don't mind a flat deck every now and then. WI losing by an innings and a million runs is poor watching though.

I have seen bowler friendly pitches in the UAE, but yeah usually they're mega roads that start to break up a little bit on Day 3/4.

Yeah but it's just a punishing watch. Reminds me of Melbourne last year. Hope it breaks up a bit.

Lyon's been good and the quicks were fine considering the conditions but Holland looked tripe to me. Australia need to bowl dry all day even if the wickets, or wicket-taking opportunities aren't coming.

As much as I hate the fact that they picked Labaschagne over Renshaw I really do want to see him play well.

The trouble with these UAE tracks are, yes, they're flat and offer little to the bowlers, but they just make for attritional cricket. They're not even conducive to quick scoring, and the grounds are big with slow outfields. So I get the "dull cricket" complaints, even though I believe even flat roads have their place in Test cricket.

About a decade back, almost every Indian pitch used to be like this, and I'm thankful we've moved on from that.

Yeah make this whole series about you why don't you Flem. What about us for a change?

The guy thinks we can't be miserable without compounding it further.

On another note, is it pathetic that I at least expected a wicket by now?

Paine should come up to the stumps for Siddle and look for a leg side stumping.
