Australian Domestic Off Season 2018

Doggett is a Boland/Fekete level selection. Maybe even worse than that. Though he won't play probably.

Not picking Glenn Maxwell for this tour feels like the equivalent of not picking David Hookes for the 1985 Ashes tour.

With so many top batsmen unavailable you’d think they’d be automatic selections on talent alone. But because of their apparent ‘difficult’ reputation the selectors are ironically enough more reluctant to select them because they potentially could have a greater power and influence in the side.

Ordinary away, bat for the draw.

1 Matt Renshaw
2 Usman Khawaja
3 Shaun Marsh
4 Arun Finch
5 Mitchell Marsh vc
6 Travis Head
7 Marnus Labuschagne
8 Tim Paine c
9 Ashton Agar
10 Mitchell Starc
11 Peter Siddle

Siddles twin 50s in the subcontinent gets him the final spot ahead of Neser.

Objectively speaking it looks like:
Agar vs Holland
Siddle vs Neser

With Qlders Doggett and Labbers Labuschagne on the pine. Maxwell, JRichardson, Tremain and Handscomb (in these conditions) are unlucky and all should have been picked ahead of the QLD duo IMO.

Had the squad been picked a day later Handscomb would have certainly been in it. Made 56 in the A game just now, his first notable contribution in a fair while

Can understand the Burns omission as he looked clueless in Sri Lanka a couple of years back (maybe should have gone got a chance to prove himself on A tour like Khawaja did) but what the hell do the selectors have against Glenn Maxwell in this format?

That's the thing, if Burns and Maxwell weren't automatic selections then why weren't they on the Australia A tour to India?

Maxwell should just quit Australian cricket and throw his lot in with an up and coming Associate that would treat him right.

Someone get the man a T20 Blitz contract.

Maxwell's like 30 now as well. Getting ****ed around by the selectors is wasting his time really. He could be earning big bucks playing the dozen or so T20 leagues happening every year.

So many mixed messages (and that’s putting it nicely) in this squad as Shield performances don’t appear to have any weight with selectors

They started this with the selection of Paine and have doubled down

Yeah, without wanting to sound politically incorrect, this side is borderline special needs by Australian standards (first choice for most other countries, but still). If Maxwell doesn't start this series he may as well pack up and just play all the T20 leagues around the place.
Scratch “borderline”. Nothing says “Pick me” like Doggett’s 0/100 off 16 overs.
