*Official* India Tour of England 2018

Hard to imagine that England are 2 up in this series. Their top order - Jenning, Root and Cook - continue to be utterly awful.

I can't even look at Jennings any more. A look of pain and torment and self-hate keeps creeping through that phony, smug mask of his. It's a disturbing thing to watch.
Curran has clearly been the difference between England 2-1 up vs India 2-1 up. Without him they’d probably be looking at 95 all out first innings and India 120/1 or something at close of play

Curran has played some nice innings this series but a FC average of 28 from 43 games makes it seem he's still def not top worthy

Some players just step it up in international cricket. Granted it's still only been a couple of innings but the signs are good.

I think it might be a case of him being selected right as it was going to rise anyway moreso than him just magically performing better in international cricket. He was always regarded as a serious batting talent as a youth cricketer, and I bet there are lots of examples of even specialists batsmen who had good Test careers but hadn't achieved what Curran has domestically with the bat at his age.

You have to wonder if they will try messing around with his bowling too much, there is always the risk of him catching a bad case of Loughboroughitis

Curran's body language is what impresses me. There's an intensity about him, an energy and determination, and you sense that he's always thinking and always poised and in the moment. Judging from his interviews with commies/journalists, he also seems like a really smart kid.

Today he'd have gotten a ton if he wasn't forced to slog with his last batting partner.

Where did they dig this Curran guy from **** me haven't England got enough world-class all-rounders as it is?

meanwhile we're stuck with Ashton Agar who doesn't seem to have improved an iota since 2013
Woakes, Stokes, Moeen, Rashid, Curran and Bairstow. That's 6 brilliant allrounders. They just seem to not get any good batsmen or bowlers which is the issue.

Only Stokes is the brilliant AR from that lot, everyone else including Curran haven't proven themselves outside England. Woakes for instance is Trueman+Bradman at Lords but outside England he's like Chris Martin(bat)+Chris Harris(bowl)

I was comparing to the current scenario. If you compare current allrounders, leaving out Rashid, only a handful across the world are better at both batting and bowling/wicketkeeping than these 5.

Chris Harris the batsman and Chris Martin the bowler isn't that great either tbh

How they still manage to be sucking so much as a Test team with that kind of all-round talent is a real mystery. (I know Stokes and Woakes have been injured/unavailable on and off but still).

It's not like they don't have decent bowlers, Jimmy and Broad may be on the way out but they are still class in helpful conditions. You're right about the batsmen though.
