And yes, Curran's quite the prospect. Not convinced that he should bat at 6 though. I wouldn't say that the experiment of batting youngsters a place or two higher than they bat for their counties has been a major success so far.

In Pandya's defence

He's got the 2nd highest Indian batting average in the series with 32. Which is a very decent contribution for an all-rounder in these conditions.

He's averaging 21.3 with the ball in the series and his magic spell in my view won India the game in the 3rd test. He chipped in with strong runs in that game too and was very unlucky not to get MOTM award.

Batting average of 32 with bat and 21.3 ball in series makes him undroppable. These stats include the current game. He gives the side good balance and it's playing anywhere near as bat as this site's posters make out. He's a good player.

Love it when someone like Curran just pops up out of nowhere. Been England's player of the series and the major difference between the two sides in two of the games he's played.

Let's not go that route, he cashed in when India were ahead, didn't do much in the first innings with the bat last test. Now granted his was the spell that turned the game around, but every pacer from India has had at least a fifer this year IIRC, Pandya was the last one in his 12th(?) innings this year.

Not really, he still blows too hot & too cold for me, the difference between his highs & lows is monstrous. You don't expect that from a good player, an avg or below avg player perhaps but not someone who's been hyped as much as he has.

Hard to imagine that England are 2 up in this series. Their top order - Jenning, Root and Cook - continue to be utterly awful.

I can't even look at Jennings any more. A look of pain and torment and self-hate keeps creeping through that phony, smug mask of his. It's a disturbing thing to watch.

These lower order runs really ****ing deflate you. 80-6 to 250 is unacceptable. Hopefully it's not the difference again like the first Test.

Well done to the kid though. What were the odds on him being the 2nd best batsman this series.

It's an interesting issue. Generally don't get too worked up about over rates, given the fast paced nature of tests today. I do remember, however, when Australia was playing in India and about eight overs down. When the umpires told Ponting he bowled his part timers and the game got away, and has been lampooned for it ever since. Obviously shouldn't have got into that position to start with, but he had Lee in the side who, apart from being a piece of Tory scum, always took forever to bowl a bloody over.

Where did they dig this Curran guy from **** me haven't England got enough world-class all-rounders as it is?

meanwhile we're stuck with Ashton Agar who doesn't seem to have improved an iota since 2013
