You don't get Imran's peak bowling when he is capable of holding the #6 slot - and then you might as well pick a better batsman. Imran's position in the team has to be 7.

If you are playing 4 pacers - 4th has to be Kapil for his batting. For 3 pacers + 2 spinners - he does not get into the side.

Imran is not a good enough batsman for the #6 spot - and during the times he was, he was not a great bowler. He gets into the team at #7.

Peak Imran is a legit Top 6 Test batsman, peak Dev could hold down the role as an aggressive number 7. Overall Imran's achievements with the bat outshine those of Kapil's

You could make a case for Kapil being the better ODI batsman but I don't see how he is in Tests.

Good case for better fielder tho. But I think Imran's just the better batsman, bowler and cricketer in Tests.

Peak Imran is not regular Imran with ball.

Kapil 28.5 runs per innings
Imran 30 runs per innings

Kapil scored much faster and consistently throughout the career.
He was capable of hitting 95 ball century against Marshall + Holding + Roberts + Garner attack.

Imran not.

If I had to fit both Imran and Kapil in - basically 4 seamers - I'd go for Imran when he was at his peak as a batsman and use him as 5th bowler + batting at 7, possibly 6 depending on who the keeper was.

If I was going 3 seamers, I'd peak Imran during his peak as a bowler and have him bat at 7.

He averages 20 more with bat than the ones you are suggesting for his spot. And Kapil is arguably better bowler than them.

Kapil's batting is being underrated I admit. He should be the 4th seamer if that's the combo you're going for. I'll take Mushtaq Mohammad/Mankad though. Khan should bat no higher than 7. Don't see how Engineer's good enough to open at this level.
