Not really much choice. Crap choice available to us. Burns is arguably the best bat available to England even including Cook in that debate. Cook is past his best, although still a decent bat compared to someone like Jennings. Weight of runs is enough for Burns to at least get a chance. Give him a run of 5-10 tests and then we will know. Then do the same with Gubbins if Burns fails. Gubbins has a FC average that leaves a lot to be desired tbh. One things for sure, Jennings is hopelessly out of his depth. It's ridiculous the likes of Jennings and Stoneman have had so many chances when Carberry got canned after one series when he showed more promise.I've seen you are big fan of Burns but I'm unconvinced in opening with two grafters in test cricket myself presuming Cook is staying till the Ashes. Especially with both being LHB.
You may be forced into that selection but this is where Gubbins may be favoured.
Not saying Gubbins is the answer just that he has the ability to stroke boundaries without trying to force the issue.Gubbins isn't any less of a grafter in FC cricket than Burns IMO.
He's got more of a T20 game than Burns, but if he opened with Cook in Tests he wouldn't be hitting any more boundaries than Burns would IMO. He actually has a lower FC strike rate than Burns. Not saying Gubbins is the answer just that he has the ability to stroke boundaries without trying to force the issue.
Not too convinced about this Duckett. But I do hope that Hameed can somehow turn the clock back; he looked so good when he was good.In an ideal world I am sure England wish they can turn back time on Hameed and Duckett before those sub tours.
He still does look good, but he keeps getting out bowled, lbw or caught behind - he's averaging about 8 this season - Lancs clearly can't sort him out, but I'd like to think there is a coach somewhere who couldNot too convinced about this Duckett. Guess there isn't much too chose. He's got more of a T20 game than Burns, but if he opened with Cook in Tests he wouldn't be hitting any more boundaries than Burns would IMO. He actually has a lower FC strike rate than Burns.
Duckett always had super natural talent from England u19s days but maybe between his ears not the best. A move away from home to a good county with serious ambition can maybe get him out of his comfort zone. Not too convinced about this Duckett. Not for us. We still have to play them at home.I gather Rashid Khan is not playing any red ball cricket for Sussex? Shame.
