That was PEWS.
And me tbh.

And it was not wrong at all. Because Vijay was good, and more importantly, at the time there weren't exact;y Gavaskars and Huttons opening the batting for teams in test cricket. Cook was inconsistent, Warner was up and down (mostly down overseas). All other openers apart from those three were rubbish. So saying Vijay was in the top handful of openers wasn't a controversial opinion. It was solid fact.

To be fair, playing devils advocate slightly it's a lot easier to be unbeaten/competitive in 3 Tests than 5.

Remember when Indian fans were proclaiming Vijay to be among the best, if not "the best" opener in the world?
Because he was, at the time.

Remember when Australian fans were proclaiming Bradman to be the best batsman in the world? Well now he hasn't scored a run for the last 70 years and has completely fallen out of the ICC rankings. Doesn't even play FC anymore. The hack.

I know how test cricket works. You need 20 wickets to win.
And I'm saying the more runs you put on the board, the higher the chance to get 20 wickets

Well England would bat again if required. At least it gives you best time to take 10 wickets. And then make runs if required.
And no England does not want to bat again. You don't want to bat again on Day 5 and give the opposition a window.

Which would require more time. So what exactly did you achieve with an early declaration.
You never know for sure about the weather though. A first innings lead of 200+ is massive, you shouldn't need more to win, even if you do have to bat again. If you do keep batting and get the lead to 350-400 to ensure you won't have to bat again, then India do somehow come away with a draw then you look pretty stupid for batting on.

Woakes bowling really well here again. Anderson operating too short at the moment, would get Curran on soon.

All the talk of Stokes returning requires a couple of things anyway, firstly he has to be cleared in that case and secondly even if he is how is he going to be mentally after it? Will he be ready to play a test match anyway.

Bowled great when he didn't know if he was going to jail or not last week. No reason to think he won't do well if he's cleared.

Rahane and Pujara looking about as good as one could expect given the attack and conditions. Especially like how Rahane has pulled his bat closer to his right hip in an effort to play late. India’s best chance for a partnership.
