Lokesh and Karthik both fought much harder in the second innings after their poor first innings, they were just exposed as not being good enough for the conditions

Hardik looked well out of his depth in the first innings too, but actually batted really well in the second till his dismissal. Looked better than the actual batsmen.

Biggest let downs for me were Dhawan and Vijay - it's one thing to be unwilling to respect the bowlers and bat ugly, it's another to carry that attitude as an opening batsman. I'd drop one of them and bring in Che Pu to take their spot as opener - atleast he will fight

Rahane is completely bereft of confidence right now. Can't seem to commit to his strokes, and that's leading to all these ugly dismissals we're seeing. He should be dropped. I don't know if we have anyone who can replace him in the middle order tho. Karun Nair? Can we call up Shaw or Iyer and give them a run?

Bowlers were excellent. No complaints. Keep them all, they did their job. Karthik's keeping wasn't great, but given the alternative is an untested kid and he showed signs of improvement with the bat I'd just keep him too.

Slip fielding really needs work.

I also wonder to what extent Hardik and Kohli's comfort in the second innings is down to having spent a good amount of time at the crease in the first, whilst the rest of the batsmen didn't have that.

Maybe Lokesh and Karthik will look less scratchy as the series progresses thanks to having had this valuable time in the middle. But Vijay, Dhawan and Rahane still have not had a substantial innings.

Do we have anymore warmup games before the next Test?

Mandhana is in England and in red hot form. Would be a massive upgrade to Dhawan.

We'll only get beat worse in flatter conditions. The ball will still move around, this being England, and our bowlers will get picked off by Root, Bairstow, Stokes and co. if they have to come back for long spells.

People don't say it's dead to the quality of games. Close matches happen constantly. It's the crowd and viewers that are the issue
According to the guardian - 75,716 the final attendance across the four days. That’s better than 2016 when Pakistan were here, a Test that included both days of the weekend

There is this need to look good and correct while playing defensive shots that needs to be fixed from the grassroots. For all sides in the world.

That will happen when you coach a kid to get in position to defend a ball before playing a stroke, and not the other way around
