genuine question, when was the last team that was actually reliable in the field consistently for a reasonable period of time? feels like ages.
I'm probably being ignorant here but South Africa perhaps?

oh yeah i mean off pacemen. most subcontinental sides are pretty solid close-in, it's this stuff they struggle with. it feels like these two (karthik and dhawan) have never really fielded together before as keeper/1st slip and that dhawan isn't really used to the position, which is how mistakes like that happen.

this is why i will yell to the end of time that first slip is a specialist fielding position and teams who keep rotating people out of there are just setting themselves up to drop easy catches
Yeah I'm not one of those who usually says everything was better 10-15 years ago but slip fielding standards have seen a ridiculous drop in quality.

I'll double this, during one of their summers since 2014 but I couldn't say which one.

It's hard to pick out a series of late that didn't just have some amazing examples of fielding.

that's athleticism though. 1st slip fielding is way more technical/an "art", which is how you get some of the most unathletic cricketers in history thriving there.

it absolutely is, which is why you should field specialists who understand the details of the position inside out
Amla asked to be let out of his first slip position... SA dropped like 2/3 catches in one test innings and Amla went straight back in.

Smith is probably the best example of this. Takes some absolute blinders but drops a few too many for me to consider him a great slipper. Taking the catchable ones consistently is what you really need.

Dhawan annoys me a lot. He has so much natural talent. However, he doesn't do his talent justice at all. Some how, he thinks he is as good as Sehwag. He can play strokes and be a champ. No, you have to dig it out there and work on it and you can play shots then. He probably hasn't improved much since his under 19 days, mainly because of this natural smugness. I am not even comfortable with him in the ODI team tbh (obviously not going to be dropped from that) as you never know when he will play that rash shot and when he will score a 50 or 100. At least some one like Pandya is making the best of his talent, whatever he has. After seeing him throw his wicket away many times in tests, having that stupid smile when he plays a rash shot when he is not out or out, not learning from his mistakes many a time, it is mighty annoying. Now, so late in his career, it is far too late to learn.

Sorry mate.

@CricAddict, assuming that Ashwin picks one more and that I've won and there being a knockout thing coming later in the tour (as you said), could I still participate in the forthcoming series of questions before the said knockout?
Yes, you definitely can participate. Expecting several rounds to happen. So we should have sufficient number of winners to participate in knockout.
