Maybe BUTShami is bowling way better than what he was around 2014 though.
Typical Indian names don't roll off the tongue, though they're relatively easy. The Yadavs, or Keiths, has a nice ring to it. Makes it sound like an unfolding "mystery"What's wrong with Kuldeep and Umesh
Yadav's going to disappoint us. Root started playing him easily by the time the last odi came around. I guess he'll take a lot of tailend wickets though if given the chance to bowl to 'em.
I have a feeling Shri was talking about Kuldeep but Burner replied talking about Umesh, here.Yadav's going to be the least of India's problems imo. I still think India not selecting him in the SA series was a major blunder. He's brilliant recently from what I've seen.
I think the selectors will probably split the difference on this and pick five "bowlers" but make one of them Pandya. With Bhuvi out I find it a pretty risky strategy to go in with 5 bowlers. At the same time I do want Kuldeep. Tough.
13 Don't be shy of picking six batsmen. Especially when playing on a green seamer. In Johannesburg this year, for example, an extra batsman would have been more helpful than the few overs Hardik Pandya got in. While he has proved himself to be a better option than Stuart Binny, who went to England in 2014, Pandya is best utilised on flatter pitches, where bowlers need frequent breaks and batting doesn't demand the best technique.
What India need to do to win in England | The Cricket Monthly | ESPN Cricinfo4 Don't rule out spin. India's overseas wins are usually two kinds: low-scorer on a seaming track or runs on board and then spin, spin, spin. One of India's three wins in England this century was through spin. The Tests on this tour are in August and September, by which time the pitches will be tired and worn out. Keep open the option of playing two spinners - one wrist and one finger - with R Ashwin playing the allrounder's role.
That was a truly pointless article. The quality of cricinfo articles has really declined over the years.
Yeah totally agree with your second point. On your first, I'm not entirely sure on, but you know Dhawan, Nair and the available batsmen better than I do.Picking an extra batsman on a green mamba isn't going to help very much if that extra batsman is either Dhawan or Nair.
We have only five batsmen + a keeper who can hold a bat + Hardik who can hold a bat.
If both Purara and Vijay are going to flop, it's only the bowling that can bail us out.
Don't rule out spin; at the same time don't presuppose by looking at the calendar that every track is going to be more helpful to the spinners.
English groundsmen are far more competent than those in other parts of the world. Pick Ashwin instead of Pandya if and only if the pitch warrants it.
I can sum it up for you:Sorry you didn't enjoy it. I genuinely did. I'd agree that it is hardly in depth, and is just a superficial gloss over issues. But it was a good list of issues and discussion points imo.
I found it quite remarkable re: the dropped catches at slips.
