*Official* South Africa Tour of Sri Lanka 2018

Great day for Sri Lanka

Liked this comment on Cricinfo:

"Of all batsmen who carried their bat in the first innings of a Test match, KC Brathwaite appears to be the only one so far to open in the second innings and remain unbeaten while five wickets fell at the other end. The nearest to him before today are MA Atherton and AB Tancred, each of whom was also fourth out in the second innings, so Karunaratne joins those two in runner up position."

Hope Roshen gets some runs here. When Chandimal is back I believe he'll be dropped.

Was a lot more impressed by Maharaj in this innings. Was tripe in the first. And does Rangana really have to retire? Call him up when there's a home Test and let him weave his magic until he is 45.

I believe Chandimal should not come back; on recent evidence, Sri Lanka play a lot better when their captain, being banned for unsavoury practices, is out of the team.

Amla's decline and AB retirement means this inevitable SAF really need batsmen. They have Makram but would need couple more I reckon if they want to travel better.
Elgar is till good.... but we have about 2-3 young prospects but they need a season or 2 at domestic and SA 'A' to prove themselves before getting into the international team. Will struggle for the next few years now that ABdV has retired.

Very disappointed in the batting, guys are better than that and the pitch is not that bad. Team feels uncooked but that is a consistent issue, should have got more preparation before the tour particularly with only 2 Tests.

Why was Mendis moved down the order from opening? Was doing pretty well there and would create space for Roshen who is a better player then Gunathilaka
Gunathilaka from what we have seen is a better player of pace, especially express stuff. And he fights fire with fire. So of he clicks, going to be pretty destructive.

Yeah he'll be first to go, I think he'll be another example of a guy who makes a slow impact in test cricket due to the gulf between SL FC cricket and test match standard, particularly in terms of pace bowling, I think this innings is of equal importance to Matthews also, needs to re-assert himself on the test stage, was one of the world's best batsmen 4 years ago.

Lakmal WAG, pretty much a complete bowling performance from SL

Mathews deserves to be dropped tbh. 1 ton in his last 10 series.

Yeah it's worth debating, he no longer bowls really, which reduces his utility factor that always helped us when we wanted to play 3 spinners or have a bit more variety overseas, he hasn't looked in the game properly since he quit as captain. Seems like the nose dive of 2015 and the implications of the post Sanga/MJ era took its toll to some degree, plus he can't seem to stay on the park. He is still the most experienced man in the team bar Herath though, and that could prove very useful when we go on tour over the next couple of years

As well as his batting declining, Mathews seems to have let his fitness slip and has put on a fair bit of weight. So in that respect he'll be irreplaceable once Herath has gone.

Man they've even replaced his previously cute cricinfo profile pic with one of him looking more like Ranatunga

Just getting a sneaking suspicion that QDK isn't evolving as a batsman as quick as us SA supporters thought be would. Seems to still make the same mistakes he made years ago.

Well, a lead of 320 or so would be quite healthy here, but if South Africa can now wrap this up quickly, they would have a glimmer of hope.
