*Official* India Tour of England 2018

If they get bowled out in the next couple of overs it's definitely not a poor innings. How does SR matter when you've not even batted out the full quota of overs
I suspect the counter argument is that Stokes scoring slowly puts pressure on the new batsmen coming in and that amplifies the collapse

Stokes should be criticised for lacking the ability to rotate the strike better. Its not a bad idea to bat time but he didn't execute it as well as one should.

Great stuff from Kuldeep and an excellent catch by Kaul - he's had a good debut so far.

India did just about perfectly, keeping Stokes around for that long and no longer. :D

Willey and company can tonk a bit.

Another flaw of #BatDeep - if you struggle to score quickly enough, you've sacrificed the bowling strength to defend a low score.

England looking well under par here.
England have changed their team balance. Hales isn’t playing. There’s less batting than normal. If you were going to post that then today was the wrong day to do it. They’ve picked five front-line bowlers and then there’s Stokes as the sixth bowler and Root as the seventh.

With Kuldeep's luck today, we should send him up to open. He might get a century. What a day he's having.

With those two wickets, Kuldeep Yadav's numbers look even better; though the first was clearly the fielder's wicket and he second was a wicket for a bad ball.

Ashwins not scored a lot of runs lately, personally I'm now leaning to 6 proper batsmen, keeper, Kuldeep, 3 seamers. Let Kohli Dhawan and Vijay bowl 10 overs of rubbish a day if needed.

If Kuldeep picks a fifer in the next game, he could be the second quickest bowler ever after Mendis to 50 ODI wickets. But if he takes those 5 wickets over the next two games, he'd be the joint second quickest along with Agarkar and McClenaghan.

Sounds reasonable. India wouldn't have to leave out Dhawan or Pujara if they go in with six specialist batsmen (feels weird to say it but Kohli will be coming in at 5 in that case). Its not like Pandya is going to contribute much with bowl anyway. On the other hand, English wickets are looking really dry if the tour so far is anything to judge, so going in with Ashwin as the 2nd spinner may not be so bad, so its a really tough choice. Not for Kohli and team management though, as we know they have too much faith in Pandya and really want him to work out as a long-term prospect. In all likelihood they're going to go in with the same squad as first SA test except (hopefully) for one less pacer to make room for Kuldeep.

Haha that Root LBW looked like it was hitting middle of middle. Why did he play back to that?

Wait, is Dhawan in the test XI? Aren't KL and Vijay opening? Granted Vijay has been a bit **** lately.

Wood is a bit pointless. Weak bowler and bats at 11.

What I don't get is India are making our bowlers look like club bowlers. But Ali took a wicket and immediately got taken off. Should have at least given him a few more overs.

He bowls Wood 5 overs straight for 0-40 and takes Ali off after 1-14 off 2. I find that strange.

England at least 50 runs short with the bat. Stokes go slow innings was just too slow, it was ok for a re-build up to 50 balls faced but we needed to get 300 minimum to be competitive. He waited an eternity to hit the accelerator. I can't blame him too much considering how badly we batted however. At least he got runs on the board. We played Kuldeep horrendously. Great bowler, but England will be embarrassed at his figures. I also think the balance of the side is wrong. Could have played a batter over Wood.

Given his current form and that India persisted with him in the SA despite poor showing, I'd say he will be played ahead of either Vijay or Pujara at least in the 1st test (if India choose to go in with 5 bats, 1 keeper). Quite confident that he'll be dropped by the 2nd match though.

At least one - possibly up to nine or ten - of the openers will probably be injured by the time the Tests roll around anyway.
