Is it really a lack of fight when only two innings so far have gone beyond 20 balls?
Haque has faced 5 balls, and been dismissed twice. I wouldn't be making character judgments on him about this. Gabriel and Roach are handy bowlers, who seem to be exploiting the conditions well.
As a NZC fan I remember when SA tore us apart on the opening day of the series with Philander. The NZ team was just not technically ready for such an examination. Noone would suggest KW isn't a fighter, or McCullum for that matter. Even Guptill has great attributes as a leader within a team. From there, it just kept falling apart for the NZC batsmen as Steyn got into his groove.
The only batsmen who could hold their heads high at the end of that test series were Brownlie (since long time dropped because he is awful versus spin and yet masterful vs seam and swing) and Watling who has become a regular stalwart for NZC since. That tour ended the careers of Flynn and Franklin, and saw Guppie dropped (with Munro still not having received a second chance as yet).
