khawaja against spin, noun
A situation in which someone usually quite talented is totally out of their depth.
"Bob the Councillor is normally a good public speaker, really smooth and calm, but at a public meeting the other day someone from the press asked him questions about plans to increase Councillors' benefits and it was khawaja against spin - he just totally floundered and started spewing out cliché nonsense.

Something that is expected to fail dismally, but ends up doing very well

To assume something is going to happen, when it is actually very unlikely to
"Barney always had a tendency to rush into things, but he really played for turn from giles when he brought £10,000 worth of shares in Northern Rock, assuming that their value would rise, when the news was full of stories of it's impeding bankruptcy and collapse."

"Jeff rose to fame as a highly successful stock market investor who wasn't afraid to take risks, but eventually it went to his head and he started bowling first like Bangladesh by only investing in companies known to be on the verge of collapse, just because he thought they *might* turn things around spectacularly."
