Not quite true - WI still had Croft, Roberts, Holding, Marshall, Garner, and Marshall (that's 6 let alone 5)- not even incl Syvester Clarke in the early 80's.

But Steyn, MMorkel, Philander, Abbott and Rabada of two years ago gets close if you set the bar at 5 - noone really knew who Ngidi was back then outside SA.

But use it at 5. And it is still valid.

Marshall was good enough to get Crofty dropped before he went on a rebel tour.

Marshall already had acceptable test seasons in 1980 and and an additional game in 1981 all averaging under 27. Plus he was keeping Sylvester Clarke out of the selection scheme. I don't know about this high 30's in FC that you claim - but it sounds dubious to me. Marshall was already forcing his away in ahead of Sylvester Clarke (no mean feat) and Winston Davis, let alone Crofty.

I have to say KL Rahul is a beast. I think we should probably call him the best t20 player in the world? Those stats from 17 games played are great in t20i and decent overall too.

England batted very badly apart from Roy, Buttler and Willey. Pretty shocking really. But India did actually bowl brilliantly to be honest, Buttler did well to get the score he did and when he got out it was effectively game over looking at the scoreboard and India's batting.

That's tests. You said FC.

So it is low 30's at tests - that's more than partially different from high 30's in FC in my opinion.

By 1983 he had already played 12 tests (and was an established county pro with Hampshire -39 FC games in '81 and '82 winters alone).

His test debut was in 1978.

Buttler is a good player. But he only averages 27 in 63 games. No where near good enough to be considered the best t20 player in the world in my view, in fact I'd say it's silly to consider him to be considering that and his SR. 137 SR isn't that high either considering the low average if we are being honest.

Personally, I would be leaning towards an allrounder like Dre Russ (but his bowling has been pies lately) or a bowler like Rashid for player (who's batting and fielding is on the up and up), but for batsman - Kohli's 2016 was a long time ago now. Warner's banned and failing in t20i. Gayle is past his prime - it is really open.

Personally, I would be leaning towards an allrounder like Dre Russ (but his bowling has been pies lately) or a bowler like Rashid for player (who's batting and fielding is on the up and up), but for batsman - Kohli's 2016 was a long time ago now. Warner's banned and failing in t20i. Gayle is past his prime - it is really open.

Hard to hide from Finch's stats. On paper it's out of Finch or KL Rahul I think.

Andre Russell has bad t20I stats, decent in normal t20..but he has quite poor stats in international t20 despite great ones in ODIs.

Don't be wilfully obtuse. I obviously meant his test debut was after few FC games which taints his stats a bit. Obviously he got better between 78' noob Marshall and 83' GOAT Marshall
