Australian One Day team

brockley

International Captain
5 matches in June vs England,a tri series in ZImbabwe and possible series against Bangladesh.
With England smashing us is the One Dayers see changes + Smith,Warner and Bancroft unavailable.

Finch will open and possible captain.
The opening spot is between Shaun Marsh,Darcy Short,Usman Khawajah or Glenn Maxwell.
Chris Lynn is a possible no 3 if they pick him.
Handscomb and Bailey are in line to fill Smiths' spot for no 4
Then Maxwell and Stoinis.
Plus Travis Head in there.
Carey or Paine for the One Dayers,Paine may be captain, but Careys' form is commanding.

The bowlers if available Starc,Hazelwood,Cummins and Richardson abd the possibility of Billy stanlake, who didn't play for QLD.
Zampa picked would go against his form.So maybe Nathan Lyon,Ashton Agar,Jon Holland or Michael Swepson.

I think there's a huge likelihood that Bailey goes and takes charge, in line with Paine doing the Tests. At least on the tour to assist Finch if he skippers and provide a wise head for counsel.

I'd be fine with Bailey as long he replaces Head (and not Maxwell). Finch is an appalling captain. Not a fan of Lynn in general, but his attractiveness to the selectors is understandable and undeniable.

No room for MMarsh is the reckoning here? I wonder if they might go for a combination with both Marsh and Stoinis like the 5th ODI, though maybe not that order.

Paine vs Carey is an interesting one. Their List A s/rs are not that different (71 vs 75) but Carey simply looks better, with more striking ability.

The main thing I like about stephen's suggested team is the lack of Zampa. His figures were't disgraceful but he looked so shite.

Absolutely hate Handcomb's keeping, but that's the only option they have to strengthen batting

Carey at 7, Maxwell at 5 in that lineup I reckon weldone. No Handscomb in one day cricket at the moment.

Mitch Marsh still missing because of ankle injury at that stage I believe, Starfighter.

Ya I haven't seen Carey yet. And I completely forgot about Mitch Marsh - they can even play Stoinis and MMarsh as 2 specialist bowlers because Maxwell-Head can do a job as 6th bowler.

Probably in the minority here but I honestly think they should consider Khawaja as opener. Serious OD player imo and he did well the last time he was allowed to open. There's plenty of good spinners around these days which is the main problem though.

The normal awards that everyone else has
Finch
Short
Lynn
Head
Maxwell
Bailey *
Stoinis
Carey/Paine +
Starc
Cummins
Hazelwood/Stanlake

Spinning to be done by Head, Maxwell and Short.

And you could bat that top order almost any way you wanted to.

So Zimbabwe Tri series is T20s now

I agree. Khawaja hasn't had anywhere near enough opportunity to establish himself as an ODI player. With Finch and Warner immovable at the top, and TPC at 3 you understand why. But there's no excuse now.

I wouldn't mind leaving him out though if it means fast-tracking Short into the side. He could be something really special. Like Warner without the personality disorder.

So with Marsh and Starc out and perhaps question marks over Cummins and Paine..

So that means..

1 Finch
2 Short
3 Lynn
4 Maxwell
5 Stoinis
6 Head
7 Carey
8 Richardson
9 Richardson
10 Hazlewood
11 Tye

Maxwell, Head, Short are spinning options.
Tye and Kane Richardson are death bowlers
Haze and one of the Richardson's to share the new ball.

Be interesting to see who the "specialist spinner" picked as part of the squad will be.

If that batting line up doesn't scream "collapse imminent" then I don't know what would. Also we need to get rid of Head somehow. I just don't like him.

Oh my god I didn't realise, I'm actually so sad now. :(
Welcome to the future

Look on the bright side, with the new rights deal you won't have to see Head in the ODI side again. In fact you won't see any ODIs again!

FMD this is a very bad team.

I think this series has helped Warner so much. Most people will want him back as he obviously demands a spot compared to the current mob.

World Cup bound
Warner Finch Smith Head MMarsh
Carey
Lyon
Starc Cummins Hazlewood Stanlake

Thats 11 so 4 spots available (top order bat, batting all rounder, bowler and a token WA guy)

SMarsh Khawaja Ferguson Lynn
Stoinis Maxwell
KRichardson JRichardson Behrendorff Tye
Agar Short Turner Bancroft

2 Finch
3 Stonis
4 Smith
5 Maxwell
6 M Marsh
7 Carey
8 Agar
9 Cummins
10 Starc
11 Hazelwood

reserve Coulter-Nile

Pretty solid, but could still go with an extra batsman instead of Agar. Lynn, Khawaja, Short, Smarsh or someone. A bit too many "all-roundery" type players from 4-8
