wow, lots of comments on here about us deliberately cheating...I haven't seen much of this match so cant say whats happened however, I did see a clip showing that Gunner Gould asked to check the palms of DDS and didn't find anything wrong but then overnight, 5 penalty runs were added and the ball changed? I don't understand how anyone can be accused of cheating without the proper evidence? Then I notice people have commented that Chandimal was seen eating a sweet and applying saliva to the ball. Was this after the initial situation with the umpires or a separate incident?

I also see that chandimal has denied any wrongdoing today and pleaded not guilty to the offence laid against him. Lets get this straight, I don't want anyone who is cheating representing my country so IF there is conclusive proof, then he should be punished severely.

Back to the actual match, I am pleased with the efforts of Kumara, Rajitha and also Kusal M. I really cant see how Kusal P is in this team ( I rate him for the shorter format ) and simply don't understand what Kaushal Silva did wrong...

In the SA Vs Aus game, the umpires were informed by the third umpire to check if the Aussies were tampering. On the field, they found no evidence, they were satisfied that the ball didn't look tampered with, and so no penalty was applied.

Once the news broke out, you could make a case that they could possibly retroactively award 5 penalty runs and change the ball, but the law doesn't apply for an attempt to change the condition of the ball. It applies when the balls condition has actually been changed. So not doing anything on account of feeling no damage done on the ball is fine

The point is simple - a ball that we know was tampered with, was checked by on field umpires and they failed to detect anything. So what exactly is their process here in determining ball tampering? When there we know for a fact that ball tampering happened, Umpires have no clue. When there's not a shred of video evidence, umpires have an issue with the ball.

I don't think umpires should rely on video evidence for this; they shouldn't be at the mercy of what a home broadcaster chooses to show to the rest of the world.
In addition, a bad precedent should not be the justification for closing one's eyes to the possibility of unfair play; the umpires need to crack down - hard - on this kind of nonsense. Crucifying the umpire in 2006 was a historical blunder.
