Apparently, the Aussies have already lost two games today: football (which I was aware of) and an international in some obscure sport called Rugby.
They have the chance of recording a negative hat trick now.
So two inconsequential sports that nobody of substance cares about?

This Australian cricket side is so far below our best side it's ridiculous. But the one thing we got right for this game was picking the extra batsman. The commentators are totally wrong there. The modern ODI game is so skewed towards the batting side that there's not any point picking the extra bowler.

Incidentally it feels weird that the final JAMODI series we'll see on FTA TV is this random Eng vs Aus ODI series in winter.

Sutherland and co selling the game off to Foxtel still makes me angry.

They also named Scotland after Scotland Island. Even gave it a cute little Parliament of it’s own

Impressive thing about Roy's batting since getting dropped and making a comeback is that he has added gears to his batting to suit the 2nd PP. He still goes for the big shots but tries to pick up a lot more singles

Would definitely be a rare "achievement". Just among cricketing nations there wouldn't be any others apart from NZ and Eng that would even be competitive in 3 different high profile sports would there? Let alone be able to lose 3 in one night.

Good to see Buttler promoting himself up the order in this situation. At least, I think he was originally due to come in after Billings.

Nah - after Morgan typically but listed before Billings.

Short is listed at 8 for Aus but I really doubt that. Think Agar will bat 8.

Bairstow has phenomenal ODI stats now. Shame he couldn't make it to 50 here. 42 off 24 balls is good going. His average is almost identical to Root's, but with a far superior strike rate. I am a big fan of getting off to a flier in ODIs. Bairstow seems to be able to do that and maintain a huge average.

That's 20 games now as opener. 1021 runs @ 51.05 average and 112 strike rate. Very good from Bairstow.

Roy going along well.

Yeah, he's been exceptional for England, and those are real runs in that average where its not padded with not outs. But he needs to maintain it for England to and past this time next year.

Root is going fine too, the issue for me in the A team is Morgan.

1 Bairstow
2 Roy (hit and miss but does his role)
3 Root anchor
4 Morgan -???
5 Stokes (hit and miss but does his role)
6 Buttler
7 Ali
8 Woakes
9 Willey
10 Rashid
11 Plunkett

Also - you guys do not have suitable replacements for Stokes and Woakes when they miss games, and probably not Ali either.

Wood is terrible as a replacement for Plunkett or Woakes or Willey.

Stokes missing out and being replaced by Hales weakens the bowling depth.

Woakes is just irreplaceable given his batting form in recent past.

I think the top England XI is very good despite Morgan, but the likes of Billings (for Root, Bairstow or Morgan) and Hales (for Stokes) are questionable to depth as replacements. Same goes for Mark Wood. And often a World Cup campaign will test depth. The one place England clearly have depth is wicket keeper, with Billings, Bairstow and Buttler all able to keep at a highish level.

Anyone could be competitive, Aussie style. Believe me, it is extremely easy to lose games; no special skill is required for that.

Short should open. Head is a joke, shouldn't even be in the team.
Is Short the new Alec Stewart prototype, smashes fast bowlers with ease but struggles against spinners?

If so - he really should open always.

Short struggled in the IPL. I mean really struggled. Many a batsman have struggled in India, it is quite interesting to see how he goes outside Australia elsewhere now for many cricket fans.
