I think it's more mental than technical. When you're winning a passage of play, your body language and fielding reflects that. Emerging nations tend to dominate and bully the teams they play on their way up - the confidence gets reflected in the fielding and bowling. But then they come against India in a Test match, and then the wheels come off a bit.

When Mujeeb and Rashid had seized back the initiative yesterday, leg slip pulled off a really good catch off Pujara, and the fielding was energetic and tight. They will learn, with time, how to keep that intensity and focus even when they are the ones being put under pressure.
General fitness is a big part of it. Hard to stay stitched on every single ball if you're dead on your feet.

As someone who has kept 85 over days quite often, I can tell you it ****ing sux

Same with just fielding 85 over days though. Or fielding in general. Basically any time you're not batting really.

It's still more fun than being alone at deep midwicket or whatever then having to shuttle between the 30 yard and boundary because your captain wants to attack the new batsmen only to watch a half tracker from your finger spinner sail over your head and land in the bushes which you then have to dig through to retrieve the ball.

So glad I took up keeping.

Heavy toll on the Rashid predictions. Some of these are still theoretically possible. But pretty damn unlikely.
