They say one can't keep bowling length in limited overs cricket; but that particular strategy is not working for Rashid Khan in this test match.

Tbf, it's not like Rashid was necessarily "found out" despite bowling his normal way. He bowled a bunch of uncharacteristic full tosses and long hops. Would've been more worrisome if he bowled normally and still got spanked.

Have to cut him some slack because of nerves I suppose, but if replicates this in the second dig (assuming there even is one) then you just have to say he's a spud at test level and will have a Chris Matthews-type career.

Maybe, but after Ish Sodhi, Imran Tahir and Brad Hogg, this was always on the cards (not at over 6 runs an over mind you - that is bad bowling), but adapting to the control test cricket demands with a field up, as against batsman battling an outfield to score fast and not get out in limited overs.

People are over reacting IMO

I think its a combination of good pitch, good players of spin, lack of expierence for long format bowling and most importantly nerves for the occasion.

I am not the hugest of Rashid fan I always believed as a test bowler he will average around 32 but give him a dusty day 3-5 pitch and he will pick quie a few wickets no matter who the opposition is

NZC, Ish Sodhi and Todd Astle would kill for a bowling average in tests of 32. Heck even off spin (no spin) Dan Vettorri would.

32 is better than Mushtaq Ahmed and Qadir.

Bet if you threw the Afghanistanis a Nagpur-like minefield they'd be right at home.

not in the current era this is a very poor era of test batting vs spin

Dunno about that. Santner averages over 37 with the ball. Mark Craig over 46. Ish Sodhi over 48. Astle a cheap 37 flat.

England has Moeen at over 40.

This current generation of Aussie cricketers is struggling with spinning conditions. Seems to be business as usual for Indian cricketers.

Lyon is impressive globally at 32. Shah is a whisker under 30.

Hardly the Murali, Warne and Kumble era.

The current Indian batsman are no where near the fab 4 when it comes to spin maybe Pujara thats it at home they have not been tested against a quality spin attack yet. With Mis-You retirement there are none in Pakistan. Mahela, Sanga and Samraweera were god against spin the current blokes not so much. The batting stocks of Eng-Aus & SA are weakest in years which means their batting vs spin is also weakest in decades.

If what you say is all true, why are the spin bowlers are not cashing in on this?

Herath, Lyon, Yasir, they're all over 28 average.

Jadeja is slightly inflated from being at home, but if batsmen have forgotten to play spin, I'd expect more than him alone under 25.

The current Indian batsmen don't use their feet to spin well. Thats an issue when you have a spinner who varies his pace and puts a lot of overspin on the ball. Especially if they're accurate and bowl a probing length

Spinners who are rapid in the air, side spin the ball, and are constantly serving up half trackers and full tosses won't bother them
