South Africa team selection

Do you think any of the really young guys have an real opportunity to make it.... I'm thinking von Tonder and Breetke in particular? And what about Muthusamy?
It's so tough to judge because I don't think you can take domestic at face value and say they at least reaching a certain marker that separates them from a good domestic player to potential international regular.

Those 3 have got a lot going for them.

Breetzke is natural talent, technique and timing.
Muthusamy is hard work and determination.
van Tonder is grit , technique and deals with responsibility.

But can they actually put the numbers on the board in time is tough to commit to.

SA 'A' has been a bit boring of late. Our teams have been boring and we've not been getting good results. It's probably as a result of the domestic game. So what I see from contracts being given out is what the system has needed but will they get enough games is the question.

Steyn & Rabada on track for Sri Lanka tour.
So we may get to see an attack of Steyn, Philander and Rabada; this is great news.

Hopefully, the Sri Lankans won't prepare designer pitches to completely negate every aspect of quick bowling (though that is precisely what Faf deserves).

SL pitches tend to have something in it for the pacers most of the time (first two Tests against India last year were the exception).

Not really worried, Steyn and Rabada can reverse the ball... and we won't need any sandpaper to get the ball reversing....

I don't think we would be tooting our own horn to say that you can't entirely negate our pace attack. Even Big Vern is always a threat on flat pitches because of his line imo. Massive, massive tour for Keshav. He has been excellent so far so im not expecting anything less.

Not holding my breath for Steyn returning to be honest, would be a massive gamble to throw him straight back into test cricket with his recent fitness record. For all his undeniable talent do South Africa really want to risk being a bowler short mid test again

Steyn isn't picked on talent he is being on his record. Very few if any has the record he has in the sub continent.

None of philander, kg nor keshav has yet proven they can win matches in the subcontinent.

Steyn plays if he gets through his county stint.

Records count for nothing if he can't stay fit, his recent history is far from encouraging on that front. Certainly hope this isn't the last we have seen of Steyn in international cricket but I can't understand your optimism at all.

As long as he just gets to bowl.... I'm not bothered about LO stuff at the moment, need him to start getting through the FC games. His form an control will return. (not like he was a great LO bowler!)

Lots of talent. Just doesn't have ABdV lustre.

Go well SA. :)

Interesting times ahead. As always 3 tests nice to find out about players and you may need your squad etc

2 wristies does throw up nice variation. Also both tubby lads. What is it with tubby wristies ? :)

Some saying why Klaasen over Second. Think its just one of those selection things. Probably style of player too.

Nice squad. Also good to see someone like Von Berg getting a call-up after toiling in the provincial set-up. Also gives the rest of us overweight bespectacled cricketers who bowl a bit of legspin that the dream is perhaps not dead.

3 Tests? Didn't sri lanka cut it to 2?

Style and klaasen being a middle order player and younger compared to second being a top order player and older.

Decent squad. Personally would have liked muller in the squad but quess 3 spinners meant no room.
