So Joe Root made is debut in 2012.......have England had a decent top order bat since hime?
Well Taylor is the only one who may have been and sadly couldn't be.

Reason I wanted Clarke in this test instead of Buttler and why Livingstone should have been in the ashes squad instead of Vince/Ballance.

Seeing Shadab bowl that delivery makes me really excited about how the pitch is going to be behaving on the fifth day. But, wait, there isn't going to be a fifth day.
Might be simply because if we luckily survive till tomorrow there are thunderstorms forecast so may lose lots of play.

Taylor was on the verge of being dropped. Awful what happened, but no way did he show the potential of a decent top order batter.

Typical England fan, can't stand losing properly so they pray for other methods.
Oh how pitiful you are!
I am not praying for other methods, just stating that tomorrow there are thunderstorms forecast across London so play will be lost if the game hasn't ended today.

Has everyone given up on Malan already? I think he could be pretty good.
I like him and he's definitely shown that he might have what it takes, but after 13 tests he would ideally be showing more consistency. His FC record after quite a while doesn't exactly point to a huge talent who just hasn't broken through in tests yet either. Better Stoneman, but both in all likelihood feasibly be gone by the India series, though we've also got more potential replacements for Malan than we have Stoneman afaik.

Jennings made his debut against the number 1 Test side in the world away, got a hundred, then had a torrid time against the best pace attack (SA) and got dropped straight away. Stoneman on the other hand, made his debut at home against a weaker side in WI, then got a full series in Australia where at least it's not as difficult a place for openers, then failed against a non major Test side later, still no hundreds and still gets a go.

Advance clarification, I'm not saying Jennings is a quality opener or he would have done a lot better. Just pointing out the disparity in the number of opportunities. Surely Jennings did more than the likes of Stoneman, Vince with a Test hundred to earn a longer run, which neither of them managed.

I remember Malan being pretty solid in the Ashes. Not that I remember much from that abortion of a Test series

Every fan longs for rain when they are losing a match.
I wasn't though was just stating a fact.

Just the same as this is a fact as a betting man I have just put a bet on the draw at 9-1 which is more likely in my opinion than an England win which is only 3-1, Pakistan are 1-3 to win.

I've also thought about Jennings being a touch unlucky compared to others tried in the opening sport.

Wonder if they will bite the bullet and just sack Stoneman off after 1 test and acknowledge they should have left him out.

Gubbins, Jennings or someone else at least has a bit of age on their side.

Think England are going to have to have to say at some stage lets build a young team like Pakistan have done here and SA did a few years back when we hit a tough place and Mickey Arthur has been the one who has loved taking this on.

Must be awkward for Botham when Nasser praises the reverse swing of Wasim and Waqar in England and he has to agree now when he accused them of cheating when they were doing it.
