*Official* Pakistan tour of Ireland, England and Scotland 2018

Even from the little that we have seen of him, and that on a surface that was distinctly unfavourable to his kind of bowling, I think that this Bess would become a better spinner than Moeen within a reasonably short time. Worth investing in him and for the future, I'd say.

Sometimes you just drop a guy to give him some time and space to work on his game away from the pressures of International cricket.

Sometimes county/domestic teams drop guys for the same reason too.

Sometimes when you're struggling you just need some time playing cricket in the level below, with less pressure and expectations.

And sometimes you have people with talent but without the performances - and it might be worth giving them a go at a higher standard to see if that makes them raise their game.

Sometimes someone absolutely deserves to be dropped, even though they are still the best option. Just because they suck doesn't mean there's someone better. I don't see how anyone can have confidence that this Bess guy is better than Moeen would be as a bowler in England. That's not even taking batting into account.
Players can always improve. I dont want to be too harsh on Bess because he bowled only one innings but theres nothing that impressive or showed he's likely to be a threat in future at this stage. He's going to be dropped anyways probably for Leach.

Amir needs to lift up his game for the rest of the match. Hes been tight but not quite there with the line
Or the length. When he gets the length right, he strays on the legs and gets flicked. When he gets the off stump line, he is a tad short and the batsman easily lets it go. He definitely struggles to adjust his length from LO to Test cricket which is why he needs to bowl a long 8-10 over spell.

Yeah I think they were set on dropping Moeen with the knowledge that Leach can actually bowl. Once Leach got injured though they just went with the next available specialist instead of reassessing Moeen v Bess.

Probably will but I doubt he will be in the side come the India series presuming that Leach is fit again as he should get the place back that was going to be his in the first place.

Seeing Shadab bowl that delivery makes me really excited about how the pitch is going to be behaving on the fifth day. But, wait, there isn't going to be a fifth day.

No he didn't. He actually put forward an excellent argument both for and against. That Anderson gets more movement when he drags it back and gets loopy when he pitches it up, thus allowing Haris to drive him down. What he didn't touch on, what none of the commentators touched on was how not to be loopy - which is to get the ball to shape in/away late. This is what guys like Wasim, Steyn mastered. An extremely difficult and rare skill.
Mitch Starc a perfect example of this early in his Test career. He bowled that "full" length at high pace and got swing, but for some reason it just seemed extremely floaty/loopy when he did so and got carted.

All this talk about the spinner and it's not even in the top 5 problems for this Test match anyway.
