$200k seems like a good deal for some hit and giggle. Are foreign players allowed? How many games will there be?

From what we know, which is admittedly scratchy: 3/15 overseas, and 32 games preceding the playoff (8 teams playing four home and four away).

It will follow the Big Bash model in technically not being a franchise but owned/operated by the ECB.

That's good enough money to attract the usual T20 merchants as far as foreign players go. The CPL pays around the same. I don't think the non top-tier English cricketers will be too fussed about getting a solid $80k for 8 games either.

I'm sure it'll attract some fans (the bulk will probably be existing fans), but the question is whether the money and time being poured into this is worth the product and the acquisition cost of the new fans that they claim to be chasing.

It isn't aimed at existing fans - we've been told this repeatedly. This is aimed at people who currently don't like cricket, Strauss's ''mums and kids'' - ''ethnic minorities'' have also been cited in other statements by Tom Harrison and Strauss. The ECB are aiming to attract some untapped potential fanbase who will drink coffee instead of beer (yes, Tom Harrison seriously uses this logic in an article supporting the competition in Wisden 2018!). If you are a current cricket fan this is not aimed at you. This is their general line that is been used to preempt all of the arguments. ''Why do you need to lose twenty balls? '' ''This isn't aimed at you'', etc.

Yeah, ethnic minorities like Indians/Pakistanis/Caribbeans etc. who have been brought up on proper cricket are dying for this new variation where the number of balls bowled is not a multiple of 6.

I know, I'm just saying that the bulk of people who tune in for this will still be existing fans.

Then the ECB would regard that as a failure, although judging by the hatred of this proposal by existing fans I cannot see it happening irrespective.

The logical aim would be to bring the old fans with you whilst attracting new ones. Logic however is absent at ECB HQ.

Before even wondering about the composition of the crowd, consider how it will get off the ground. Before beginning it faces the potentiality of a full players' revolt.

Yeah but we're all assuming this will happen.

Regardless of whether or not it survives, no-one and I mean no-one on CW thinks it'll live up to the ECB's vision. It's a given that it won't.
The punter in me likes these odds.

So I say that I think the EWCB vision will be lived up to. Heck - it is on the Beeb, how interesting is Eastenders and Emmerdale these days?

That's for taking away my like in the NZ Black Caps thread Prince :P

What is the EWCB vision anyway, 1 less kid joining Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Tottenhan, Aresnal, St Helens RLFC, Wigan RLFC, Saracens, or Bath (ironic name for a club) each year?

The ECB vision seems to be packed out stadiums full of people who don't know who Joe Root is, so good luck.

Dude, I raise you that over 1.2 billion Indian obsessed cricket fans in the IPL auctions didn't know who Joe Root was so their clubs signed Rahane, Smith and de Kock to play 20 over cricket. Heck even Brendon McCullum got a pay day. And JP Duminy. I'm serios. Faf Du Plessis too.

And Joe Root smashed it in the WT20 2016 which was hosted in India. I'd be less embarassed about Poms not knowing who he is than Indians to be honest :p

Abdul Razzaq made a wise decision to comeback. Hopefully he might be recruited in this format of the game
He's 38, in Pakistani Birth Certificate years. And a seam bowler allrounder.

You sure about your position on this? Shahid Afridi is younger in Pakistanian Birth Certificate years of age (Afridi intl debut in 1998).

Remember that it is an 8 team comp, not 18.

Think I'd rather see Warne, Hogg and Afridi myself.

Colin Graves has just given an interview in which he says the 100 is ''set in stone'' to which Daryl Mitchell replied on twitter,

He should probably let Tom Harrison know then. That’s not what he told us last week!
Jesus!! The crooked lies!!
