It's nice to see some losing efforts from teams who chose not to contest the toss. Shows the whiners who got the rule put in place that maybe it isn't quite a big an influence on things as they liked to imply.

That said, the less said about the Durham game the better.

Big 100 that for Sam Northeast.

Young James Bracey at Gloucs has started his FC career well. His 2nd 100 already.

Virdi also coming to the party for Surrey like fellow youngster Pope.

Surely Derby aren't going to throw away their first win since 2014

For Notts - their batting was always going to be the concern.

Like Porter , Ben Coad has put the numbers on the board. But very much like Craig Overton isn't it.

In fairness their numbers are far better than Overton but I get what you are saying. If one or tother was seen as the natural successor to Anderson then it wouldn't be an issue but a medium pace attack doesn't cut it away as we saw this winter.

No way Amar Virdi looks 19. He must be at least 30
When he was 14 he looked 14 - impressive as a player and as a young man then an well.

Met him last year and the beard has certainly aged him.

He had some serious issues with his action in his mid teens but the coaches appear to have sorted that out.

The Banton with a big double ton for somerset 2s. scored a ton yesterday too.

Kohler-Cadmore stuck in the 2s for Yorkshire too. Worcestershire could do with him for Rhodes or Fell right now. Said months ago that Worcs should look at loaning Compton for champ cricket.

The Durham Seconds, with most of the first team batting flops haha. were meant to be playing Leicestershire in a friendly one-dayer but I cannot find the score anywhere.

England will always find place for this type and especially with Anderson/Broad aging so it will be handy if in their mind they can know who the best 2 are.

In the early years Broad and Anderson were fast 88/90 in Tests. Broad could get it up to 95, Anderson 92. Now 10mph slower. If Broad gets a wicket the adrenaline takes him right up there again. The only 'English' bowler who I see as fast is Archer. Names mentioned with speed J Overton, Gleeson, Stone, Tongue, Helm, Garton, Barber, Chappell but is their average speed fast for long periods?

Archer probably is only mid 80s when playing 4 day stuff (not that many are fast in fc cricket) but capable of bowling quick spells.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gleeson plays this summer. Took 8 wickets in the MCC game coming off an excellent 2017 and did pretty well with the lions once they called him up. All the rest of the supposed quick guys (Garton, Mahmood, JOverton, Stone, Barber, Chappell) have played so little of the time and always injured, changing actions, that they couldn't even be considered even if England were willing to take a gamble and pick someone to bowl quick.

They just stick with Croakes won't they? Granted in a 7 test summer there'll be some replacing going in.

Probably. But there is a new selection committee so you never know. And while bags of wickets at county level don't mean that much when it comes to taking 20 wickets away from home we really do have to reward county performances sometimes.

Anderson v Broad, Trent Bridge 11th - 14th May apparently.

Or perhaps not (just read Jimmy is knackered a bit).
