Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

The closest I can remember to a skipper being booted in my time watching was, scandalously, TOTAB basically having time called on his career after the SA tour in 94. Bloke should have had a place reserved for him in the team for eternity.
I don't think he was forced out; they probably felt his time was close to up but if he'd wanted to tour Pakistan he would've gone. Was more a lack of communication than anything else.

Was pretty funny how Border announced his retirement during a round of golf with a broadcasting mate on Ch 7 (much to Ch 9's annoyance). Probably was appropriate as the stage-managed, emotional, slick retirement press conference didn't seem his thing.

That press conference was like watching two toddlers in a playground s******ing about some other kid.
Bairstow should've thanked them for playing down the incident. Given where he comes from, violence after a few beers is a given. Throw in the colour of his hair and his complexion, and it was as close to a certainty as you can get.

Warner has a couple more hours to make a decision on appeal

Let’s say he does and ban is reduced to whatever

Central contracts expire at end of June and CA is under no obligation to renew or select him anyway

Might win the battle but lose the war

Maybe even he is smart enough to se that it would be unseemly after the other two didn't appeal. Or someone berated him into it.

WSC years aside, I think Smith is the first Australian skipper to be dumped by the Board since Lawry. The rest have either resigned or retired of their own volition.

.
The Phantom was dropped as skipper? Didn't know that. What was the reasoning?

We were on the verge of losing the Ashes and his captaincy was considered too defensive. The real reason was that the players had written a letter protesting their poor pay and conditions despite the Board's record profits on the India and South Africa tours in 69/70 and that he insisted, as captain, being the one to sign it and he had also written several critical newspaper articles so they were just looking for a reason to get rid of him. Then despite being only 33 and averaging 40 for the series he was dropped for one-test nonentity Ken Eastwood.

The one thing those press conferences show was Australia is now full of metrosexual crybabies. What happened to you people? You once produced Border and Waugh yet now there isn't a man among you?

Real men cry and let their emotions show. You'd have to be an archaic dinosaur suffering from toxic masculinity to think something contrary.

Anyways, the time has come for CA to be magnanimous in this hour of their absolute victory, and unilaterally dilute these sanctions.
(Well, may be wait till the broadcasting/sponsorship deals have been signed and sealed.)

They should offer up an exclusive 'spill all the dirt' discussion panel with Warner, Bancroft and Smith where CA announce the rescinding of their bans in favour of a suspended life sentence in it's place. This way the TV channel gets an awesome show that will generate hours of panel show ratings as they discuss all the dirt thrown out there, and people will watch cricket in bigger numbers waiting to see who of Smith, Warner and Bancroft oversteps the line again. That should help up the dollars a bit.

And one gets voted off the island every month and only the last 'highlander' (there can be only one!) gets to play for Aus again guaranteed popular support...

Heck this sounds like a good way to pick the entire Aus test team....
