His average is terrible, but he has put in some clutch knocks. I'd be pretty indifferent as to whether or not he belonged if quotas didn't exist.

But if I was going off hundreds alone (which I don't regard as that important), in no universe would I think he belongs. 1 in 28 games is about as bad as I've ever heard of from a specialist bat.

Although that average is poor in part as a result of a horrendous series against Sri Lanka where he scored 10 runs in 3 matches. Take that out and he averages 37.28, although if you take out Bangladesh and Zimbabwe it drops to 35.41, which still isn't great.

He does have an odd record though. As you said, he's put in some clutch knocks, so he's proved his value to the team on more than one occasion, but just doesn't seem to able to push on after doing all the hard work in those clutch knocks, nor does he appear to capitalise very often when the team is in a good position.

it's actually kinda funny, literally every time i look at the speed gun after sayers bowls it's 120kph. sure enough i look up and he bowls a bouncer at 120kph. uncanny
