I miss that Kingsmead pitch. Had the best 3 day tests...

1st Test, India tour of South Africa at Durban, Dec 26-28 1996 | Match Summary | ESPNCricinfo

India managed a whole 166 in their two digs.

Johnson was first change in that match I see...
There is a bit of history behind that pitch. India was the first country to win test series against SA since re-admission earlier that year. pitches during that series were very spin friendly. So Cronje like Duplessis this year wanted to teach a lesson to India.

we are going off - topic here. so last post from my side on this topic

Sayers was throwing half the stuff I watched down at 120km exactly, so nearly 10kms slower than Philander. Didn't watch the first half of the day, and he may have been quicker when fresher. No idea how quick prasad was
I don't think Sayers reach 130 with any deliver. Quickest I saw was 125.

Sayers got above 130 quite a bit tbf. Not so much after lunch but so slow esp for Australia who love pace.
His seam position was perfectly upright tho all day

Haha Donald scored 26 in the second innings, outscoring Tendulkar's combined 19 from both innings.

Bolo

State Captain
Donald's 26 is more than anyone from India managed in the 1st innings, and is topped only by David's 27 in the second.

He also seems to have taken 9/54, which is pretty good when you consider he was clearly playing as a specialist bat.

Lyon not getting any shape away from the batsman, whether bowling over or around the wicket. Not challenging the outside edge at all.

EDIT: watch his bowling arm, hardly gets over towards his left hip. It stays on line with his right shoulder in his follow through. Just not finishing off nearly as well as he has been in the past twelve months.
From what little I’ve seen I think he might have a hip injury. Not finishing his action off at all. Been disappointing tstl.

There's some sort of theoretical upper limit on SA's first innings score, surely. It's bizarre that they can't kick on and pile up 450+ no matter how well they start.
They have several very good batsmen but not a single Kallis-esque ruthless run-machine.

Sayers despite the 2 late wickets is just pedestrian. I don't recall seeing a opening bowler being much slower then this.
Trent Copeland? He very rarely got above 125kph. Whatever speed Sayers was bowling he deserved the AB wicket, troubled him all innings. May not be much longevity in him but he did ok.

Also, is Marsh is injured? He was bowling filth yesterday and moving like a 70 year old.

Enjoy watching de Kock and Bavuma bat together, and de Kock is so much better at 7. Looks to be the best batting surface so far this series. 400 is a must.

Today could be a huge day for our top 6. A big innings from someone could really cement their spot in the team for a while and they have the potential to be seen as the countries premier available batsman.
