Anyone know if hameeds been practicing well over the last six months  suspect there’s a heck of a lot more riding on the fruition of the next great English opener than I though last summer.

Well Livingstone should be in the side without doubt and if that means Root has to bat 3 then tough.

Can see us having wholesale changes next summer like we did after the last ashes thrashing away from home.
I wonder if it is time to put Cook in the middle order. Less lateral movement and been a decent player accumulating against spin.

Big call but get Gubbins and Hameed in and give them a go. Setting solid foundations so crucial in test cricket.

Gubbins
Hameed
Root
Livingstone
Cook
Stokes

NZ have failed to keep Stoneman and Vince bottled up at the right ends. Really Vince facing most of his balls v Southee and Stoneman v Boult.

Stoneman has been all over the shop here from the get-go.

Boult and Southee have to fancy themselves.

**** me Southee is a selfish **** with DRS, His success rate on reviews must be the worst in world cricket. I swear he must be below 10%.

Also feels like a negative ploy to bowl first since the wicket looks a little browner that usual, and if ever a Hagley wicket is going to start deteriorating over 5 days, it's this one.

Looks like a pretty good batting surface really. Root and Stoakes should fancy making runs on this.

If England can be no more than 2 down at lunch, they'll be in a prime position to boss this game.

Again, not being captain hindsight here, I thought bowling first felt wrong as soon as I saw the wicket wasn't a green top.

Grandhomme looks like Philanderish. What a potent group is this NZ attack!

Cook looked he was wafting witg a broom out there. No conviction at all. Seems like he's reserving the career saver for a get out of jail 2nd innings outing.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
After England's better showing in the last innings, and conditions looking good for batting later on, it's the perfect storm for a big daddy hundred from Joe Root. 150+ kind of stuff.
