Victoria said they could have used Christian with the ball but decided not to

Ideally, you'd have a 12th and 13th man to cover your bases, but obviously that's not practical

Similarly, if say the Sam Harper situation happened again to a team that was playing away, I think it'd be best if they could use their sub as a replacement batsman and use someone from local grade cricket to keep, but again, probably not practical

Thats it for the Vics

The star studded batting line up which was going to get them into their 4th final in row Harris, Maxwell, Finch and White failed at the final hurdle making 17 between in the final innings and 65 between them in the first.
It was a good comeback from last on the table without a win at the mid-season break.

Tipped Queensland and Tas to finish last and second last at the start of the season !

Good on them

:)

Actually something interesting happened across the ditch the other day. In an FC game between Otago and Wellington, Otago batsman Shawn Hicks got concussed and was replaced with seamer Michael Rae, who then proceeded to take 5 for 18. In the end it was irrelevant as Otago lost anyway but it is something to think about.

Per the guidelines for the Shield that would not have been allowed. With the player needing to be replaced by a like of like player and this being judged and accepted by the other team. I doubt substituting a batsman for a fast bowler would be allowed if the rules were followed properly.

NZ lacking common sense as usual

Commentators referring to Sean Abbott's bouncer as his "lethal delivery".

Sure they didn't do it on purpose but still was a bit awkward

Queensland fielder is wearing a helmet at second slip. Looks like Joe Burns, very strange. Doesn't look any closer than usual.

I'm guessing he's supposed to be short leg for the next over and just keeping the helmet on for convenience's sake, but he just missed a genuine catching opportunity and I can't help but think the helmet contributed.

They look at least a smidge closer than usual for Wildermuth, plus Burns is rather wide from the keeper to be only slip so maybe Peirson has him there for a fine cut gone awry?

NSW 7 down but still having a genuine crack at the target, this is great to watch. Even Peter Nevill is scoring at a decent rate.

Oh Abbott's out, apparently. No hot spot in Wollongong unfortunately.

Rogers is having a terrific season. 35 wickets @17.31 and 296 runs @ 24.66.

Looking forward to the final. Labuschagne might finish with most runs!

Testament to Tasmania's rebuilding of late, find of the full season for me (Winter aside). Surprised he didn't get a couple more 50s in the season though.

QLD to take out the final. Home ground and a top order that inspires a bit more, especially with Charlie Hemphrey all of a sudden becoming a juggernaut.

Well done to NSW on managing a five an over collapse. Doing the Australian style proud. I don't think anyone would be enthused about SA's less interesting losing.

Queensland to take the final.

Will the final be free entry? I'm thinking of taking the kids down to AB Oval for a couple of hours on the Saturday.

AB Oval is a cracking ground for watching and playing cricket. Good venue for the final. Hope tassie end but I think Qld will get the cookies.

It'll probably be charged at around $10, especially since there's the slightest chance of a crowd at some points.

The schedule for AB Oval games in the second half of the season has been really bad for taking the kids. All the wbbl games were on a Friday and there haven't been any shield games since Christmas.

Still, I hope kids entry is free. My 3yo daughter has been bugging me to go ever since we went a year ago.

Some good results for Parra on the weekend with ones drawing their QF against Gordon and fives winning against UNSW away. Threes lost but, having finished first get a second bite. Dermo Abbott played Sunday after the Shield game and made 30 odd not out. #Bertmentum missed out with a four ball duck, but the draw was comfortably obtained, Parra only losing four wickets all day.

Edit: Parra v Campbelltown at Old Kings in first grade semi. Sydney Uni v Parra in threes at the toilet (Petersham Oval). Parra v Gordon at Merrylands in fifth grade. Expecting Old Kings to resemble the M4 motorway this weekend, even allowing for the expected rain through the week. Merrylands is usually a good deck too. Petersham is awful. Gorgeous ground but the pitch is a bit of a nightmare half the time. Lottery.
