I'm not a fan of the policy of automatically pushing past captains into the commentary box. It works off the assumption that they are well liked and have good cricketing brains, which is fine when you end up with Shaun Pollock commenting, but not so good if you end up with Graeme Smith.

I've enjoyed Smith's comms since he joined last summer or one before. Speaks with purpose with certain nuances of the game. Seems like Indian cricket also got him involved in their home season.

Also always really liked Neil Mac. He could take Haysman's spot.

Supposedly Warne joins for the 3rd and 4th test.

He has been better than expected and does bring something to the table in terms of inside perspective on recent cricket.

If you want someone who tells it like it is though, compare him to holding. He's a straight shooter, is not widely disliked, has a voice that isn't excruciatingly dull to listen to, and has a good tactical understanding.
