***Official*** Australia in South Africa 2018

Reckon Marsh/Starc should’ve employed a bit of gamesmanship or smarts there to ensure that Starc wasn’t facing Maharaj there.

Either find a way to ensure Rabada over dragged till lunch or Marsh played out Mahraj over. I know would’ve seemed strange for Marsh to turn down singles after Starc’s start but Starc having a defensive mindset to spin was just asking for trouble.

And the wicket is a bit dead.
Odd they prepared something like this given Australia played on flat-slowish decks in Brisbane, Melbourne and to an extent Sydney, having been in India before that.

I am generally liking the more patient approach Australia has gone with under TPC. It works for this line up, which lacks the depth and the strike power of every other Australian side save the 1980s.

This is the venue. The coastal wickets are slow, have been for a long time. Durban had a bit of green and bounce around back in the day (can see pictures were you couldn't tell the difference from the outfield!) but just not the case any more.

SA decided (right;y/wrongly) to play india on the faster bouncier wickets inland and play Aus along the slower pitches on the coast basicly. Against India, Centurion was a bugger up, even though we won. And Wanderers was just an overdone mess after the Centurion bugger up.

Don't get me wrong, it is not Melbourne boring but here we have the two best fast bowling attacks in cricket and you get a pudding.

Is de Kock standing up making Philander pull his length back or something? Too many short balls and to MMarsh's credit he's putting them away nicely even if uppishly

Saw MMarsh in a BBL game last year, and I don’t reckon I’ve seen anyone hit a cricket ball harder than he does. He just monsters it when he latches on. Genuinely fear for bowlers and fielders, he hits them that hard.
