Exclusive: Adil Rashid turns back on first-class cricket after agreeing white ball-only Yorkshire contract

rashid giving up first class cricket. Bad news for Yorkshire, bad news for English cricket. Championship cricket is going to get weaker and weaker if the likes of Buttler Rashid Morgan Billings willey etc stop playing alltogether, plus they'll never develop to become those test quality players that they possibly could with the skills they possess.

Had a bit of money on Yorkshire to win championship this year at 8-1 so I too am rather disappointed that there will be no rashid around. He'd have been available for a good chunk of the games and offers better balance than Rafiq.
Good news IMO - will stop this stupid thing where people overrate his actual performances and want to select him when in reality he isn't that good a red ball bowler.

He's probably a better short format cricketer. Continues the trend of recent years of leg spin becoming the main spin option in the shorter formats and finger spin in the longer. Not sure it significantly alters the championship odds.

Some players are ODI specialists in all but name. At the top level playing all 3 is a very heavy workload.

Yes I didn't particularly think Rashid would get back in the England test side - although it would be nice to have that option open to them especially for foreign tours. Regarding workloads he isn't playing test cricket and he isn't playing in a lot of foreign t20 leagues so he's going to have a lot of spare time in the english summer.

It just means that the english batsman in championship cricket will have even less exposure to good spin bowling. Standard goes down further, gap between county and test etc.

Well that rather answers the reason why England were not picking him, and that weird incident last year where he dropped himself from championship games (provoking the ire of Yorkshire as I recall). Another white ball idiot.

Sharma for Sussex.

No idea why any foreign FC team would sign Ishant as there are a few better Indian pacers let alone from other countries

They've signed Ishant during the IPL. There aren't that many good bowlers going available for those two months.

Plunkett injured again. He really needs to get his body right.
Bowled really well for England for last year or two but they've going to have to look at alternatives for the ODI side. Real blow to their 2019 chances given the limited bowling options.

The Indians are really pursuing a mercenary policy of letting enough of them play the championship to tune up for upcoming tests policy, and the counties are buying into it, hook line and sinker - not that I blame them.

Reading up on this Rashid decision, if I was a Tyke I'd be furious about this. I'd have told him to bugger off.

Livingstone with 5 failures in a row. Nice and ready for NZ tour.
The selectors can always say they have changed their minds and are calling up Leach and Clarke instead of Crane and Livingstone.:D
Overton called up for the ODIs to replace Plunkett.

I'm still struggling to find too many benefits from a cricketing perspective for the likes of Rashid, and now Hales, and any others that may potentially follow. Yes they get more time with their feet up but it seems to me they've just given up with the hard work of four-day cricket rather than work hard to improve.

I don;t think these are the type of players that Matt Prior was talking about when he said there were several county players just clogging up the system, with a few tweaks here and there these guys still had plenty to offer.

Prior disparages them and then it's the guys who have access to the England $$$ who put their feet up during the season.

What a joke I would make a stand to protect our cc if I was the ecb and say if you want to play for England in any format you have to make yourselves available when possible in the championship.
The same way Intl rugby teams do

I haven't seen any international rugby teams require their players to play both formats. Rugby players already specialise between 15 man and 7.

Hales is just the sort of wanker to do that. The joke is with the counties who are signing them on these contracts.

I didn't mean they have to play both sevens and normal union lol.
I meant that a lot of Intl rugby teams have guidelines that you have to meet to play for your country I.e english/ kiwi players have to play domestic rugby in their countries and Aussies have to play 60 tests before they can play domestic rugby abroad
Wales have also got something simular
