Ever since joining the forum I have had the impression that almost everybody agreed Sobers was #2, and it does seem to be the case.

Yeah, I just meant the score was higher than I predicted, not the position. Quite surprised more people don’t consider Hobbs the second greatest bat around here.

Gary Sobers (565 points) FC average of 54.87, FC H.S of 365*. 86 FC centuries

Averaging nearly 58 in tests, Sobers tops the list as the next best after the Don. He's quite unanimously the best cricketer after the Don as well, owing to his bowling ability. His first test century didn't come until his 17th test, but it came with a bang, it was the highest ever test score at 365, unbeaten. He then scored 5 centuries in his next 5 tests and went from a useful batsman to a world class one.

The first and to date only person to hit 6 sixes in an a FC over, Sobers would have seemingly been a terrific ODI player, unfortunately retiring right around the time they became in vogue. His test averages make for interesting reading, averaging over 80 against India and Pakistan, only 23 against NZ(from 12 tests too no less), a very solid 60 against England(from a whopping 36 tests) and only 43 against Australia.
