Starfighter : I think Frank Iredale is the only pre-WW1 batsman left with a 30+ average who could bat in the top 5. Matthews, Mackay and Symonds battle for the no.6 slot.
As well as the two I chose, how about Shaun Marsh, Greg Ritchie, Marcus North, Bruce Laird, Brad Hodge, or Stuart Law as better options? Getting another 5x teams is no problem, we'll be down to Favell and Hilditch opening which will keep the fans (and the opposition's fine leg) interested if nothing else....

Flametree, might neef to get a little creative and move an opener to 3. For instance Matthew Elliott had a decent stretch and could bat at 3 quite naturally - Blewett and Hughes could too.
I also think you could start looking at guys with a reputation but not necessarily the greatest record. Vic Richardson and Michael Bevan come to mind.
