Virat saying in post match interview that his 150 is useless and even a 50 is worth it if it helps in win. Is that a sign towards dropping of Rohit. I hope so.

So both captains have agreed that they should have scored 400+ in the first innings. Totally impossible for batting though.

But captains always tend to say things like that....

But neither batting units have been great... both have left wickets fall in clumps and put themselves in difficult circumstances early on.

Yeah, I think there are vulnerabilities there for SA too. But they've had enough contributors to cobble together an okay score both times, and then - Kohli in the first dig aside - the Indian batsmen just haven't shown up at all.

SA aren't some amazing batting unit right now. There's definitely some glaring weaknesses. Thinking of Australia v South Africa here obviously

Yeah, for sure. Especially if they maintain this current team balance, it means that even mediocre-looking scores suddenly look really competitive in the light of Amla's decline.

Well both sides are arguably playing 5 front-line batsman and a keeper. "Some all-rounders"

It didn't help that Elgar is not exactly flowing at his crabby best, still a newbie opening and Amla/QdK aren't in their best form.

As for India. Much has been discussed. I wasn't to impressed with Rahul to be honest and I know the alternative is Shikhar but he is a big match player. We all know Rahane had to play and it was up to Kohli and the coaching staff to have him in the right space for this tour with his record away - take all the bullshit away he could have pulled on many past experiences with his ability to contribute here.

Besides Virat, no one in the team is more than 1 or 2 bad innings away from being dropped. Felt like Pujara had his place cemented after the year he had in 2017 but that was in home conditions and we're seeing how poor he's away again.

Not great. Not known a batting line up uncertain as this in my lifetime of watching Indian cricket since the 90s.

In truth nothing can or should really change in the SA batting line-up; about the only question is does SA play the extra batsmen and push QDK down to 7 again? It wont happen next mach think the same team but with Morris replacing Maharaj.

I also think SA needed this series to get some mileage in their legs and minds and to be more battle hardened. Luckily we've been good enough for India but we certainly would have needed this series before Australia.

I thought Pujara was India's best bet in this series, and if not the best, clearly the 2nd...but in reality his graph overseas is getting very dismal...3540 runs in 37 tests in the sub-continent (average 65.55) with 13 centuries and 13 half centuries and 905 in 19 tests outside sub-continent (average 27.42), 1 century and 3 half century in 33 innings! it's looking really bad at this point of time at least

Well done boys, extremely well done, deserve an extra hour here:

People being a bit harsh on Maharaj, hardly had a chance to bowl to left handers.

But didnt Proteas already face most of the Australian bowling attack the last time they were in OZ. Granted their batsmen will probably show a bit more starch in their batting

Pretty much this. They haven't done too badly
THey are ranked number one in the world, they should have done much better. If i was an Indian supporter I would be pissed off.

Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon, yeah. Not Cummins though.
