In a low scoring series, played on tough pitches, I do agree with Virat and also this is what Faf and AB have been talking about, which is that you have to take some risks to score. If everyone goes out there and flays their bat you get to 300 which is good enough on these pitches but obviously not good enough in somewhere like India where you need to make 150+ scores in order to make match winning contributions.

I think we've been too tentative and more often than not have started counterattacking only in the lower middle order after we've lost wickets in a heap, with Hardik in the first match and Rohit here. If one or two guys started doing this up top, you get to 50/1 quickly and then the Saffers start getting a bit nervous defending small totals of 200 in the past match and 280 odd here.

Faf has had a pretty low strike rate and still made runs. Amla and markram scored at a normal rate too.

You score at the rate that works for you. End of.

Now that he scored 40 change I guess he'll not be dropped. I hope these may be next changes for next match.
Rahul(Somehow Iam more confident in him than Vijay)
Virat
Chepu
Rahane
Rohit
Hardik
Dinesh
Jadeja
Bhuvi
Bumrah
Shami/Umesh

Rohit or Dinesh should open with Rahul.

Ngidi's 5-for makes him the 4th of our last 10 seamers to get 5 on debut. Others - Philander, Abbott, de Lange

Well done boys. Nice from Ngidi.

Most disappointing thing about this match for SA is the poor performance of Maharaj, cant see him playing at Wanderers.

Pretty comprehensively outclassed. Atleast in both tests we stayed in the match for the majority of the time before being overrun, but that's small comfort.

Cook had 10 innings in typical batting friendly conditions.

India had 200 team total kind of pitches and its only been 4 innings
Nah.

Both teams underachieved in the first innings here. SA really should have run up high-300s at least, and India should have matched it. It being difficult for batting on Days 4 and 5... well, yes, that's kind of how it's meant to work.

Pretty epic debut for Ngidi. He'll have tougher assignments in test cricket than this, but well done to him for making the most of his chance. It's a pretty significant thing for SA cricket that their bowling attack at least is finally starting to look representative of the country itself.

Tough day for India. To a certain extent, you've gotta say this is the consequence of playing test cricket at home non-stop for the last 18 months. Still, they've held up a lot better than I expected, or at least their bowling has. May yet cause England a few problems later in the year.
