***Official*** 5th Test at the SCG

Arachnodouche

International Captain
Hazlewood, Starc, and Cummins have taken 62 of all English wickets to have fallen so far. Evenly spread between them too, if you ignore the Test Starc missed. Are 20 wickets for a 5 Test series in Aus a good tally for a quick bowler?

Vince has batted 20 times for England and if you're being generous you could say he's had four useful innings and one good one.

So is it fair to say that from the three new batsmen only Malan will survive the Ashes? I liked Stoneman but he's not improved as the series has gone on.

Seems totally shotless against the short of a length ball, which is not really tenable for an opening batsman

Depends on the support from the rest of attack. 20/5 is 4 wickets a match which is fine

Being shotless against something sailing over the stumps isn't the worst thing I guess. Prefer that to Vince who has a wide range of ways to nick the same ball through to the keeper.

Haven't watched much of him tbf, what exactly is the problem? Just hanging his bat out to them?

I think it would be harsh to not give Stoneman the NZ tests. As mister said, some of the other guys were probably lucky to miss this series.

Gets really front on so he can't really sway, which in turn means he follows a lot of rising deliveries with his hands. It's a very Australian pitches problem, but these haven't been stereotypical Australian pitches really.

Probably something he could iron out in a few months of work, but something to keep an eye on. Australians have certainly targeted it as the series has gone on.

Malan needs 17-ish more to become the first England bat to score over 400 runs for the series. Dunno if he'll get there.

If Root somehow tons up tomorrow and saves the test it'l be some effort. He's still scored plenty of runs when you think about it just nowhere near as many as Smith

Root and Cook's series have been so funny. Will end up with decent records but almost everyone will be rightly underwhelmed by both for opposite reasons. If they just could've done something in between what they each actually did.

blokes on the cusp of selection like Hameed, Hales, Westley and Ballance were probably advantaged by being looked over for this series. Makes it very hard to not select them in the next few series where batting conditions will probably be way easier
The only thing easier will be the standard of the opposition bowlers as most of the pitches have been flat and hardly done a thing for the most part

This is undoubtedly among the worst English teams that I have seen tour here

yeah fair point bit of a brain fart on my part. but assuming their next series isn't against SA they will be against drastically easier bowlers than this summer

Australia's 4 bowlers all getting 20+ wickets in the series is an incredible stat.

Surprised to see it's been done a couple of times previously.

Did Miller/Lindwall/Davidson/Benaud ever line up for a series?(or a test)

that'd be some bloody attack
