***Official*** South African Domestic Season 2017/18

This could be a big knock for Jason Smith's season.

He was meant to be 12th man today but Kleinveldt dislocated his finger just before the toss.

Is it just me, or is there a vast surplus of aging medium pacers in the South African franchise system right now? Surely CSA would be better served for the future by seeing younger and quicker guys play more franchise cricket regularly.

Possibly and largely do to quota system team balances are hard to find so maybe go for the batsman who bowls a bit or the little seamer who can hold a bat.

In a game like this on tv now. With no Ngidi this attack likes bite. Yes Dala has pace but an attack needs sustained pace or something to test franchise batsman and Hawken could have come in but 120kph Mothoa has to come in.

Then also injuries have effected some players too.

COBRAS
Paterson
Kleinveldt
Nabe
F.Adams
Moreki
Parnell (can hit 140+ but in-consistent pace with quality)
Williams (used to be able to touch 140)
Cohen (need to see more of him )
J.Smith
Galiem
Glover (got lost in system but intrigued if he still has the pace I saw him have but so hard to get Cobras chance)

Warriors
Birch
Magala (can hit 140+)
Gqamane
Clayton Bosch
Walters
Nortje (can hit 140 but pace in-consisent)
Bokako
Nqweni
Sipamla

Dolphins
Frylinck
Shezi
Savage
Dupavillon (can hit 140+)
Maposa
Englebrecht (can hit 140+ but pace in-consistent)
Zuma (can hit 140+)
Cele
Eathan Bosch

Knights
De Lange (can hit 140+)
Olivier (can hit 140+ but pace can be in-consistent)
McLaren
Van Schalkwyk
Budaza
Dry

Lions
Viljoen (can hit 140+)
B.Hendricks
Pretorius
Mulder

Titans
Morris (can hit 140+)
Ngidi (can hit 140+)
Dala (can hit 140+)
Siboto
A.Morkel
Wiese
Mothoa
Hawken (can hit 140+)
M.Pretorius
Corbin Bosch (showed he could hit 140 earlier this season but need to see more)
Trumpelmann (need to see more but has to jump a few)

Heinrich Klaasen off with the keeping pads and on to bowl off-spin. First I've seen from him.

Heinrich Klaassen is probably the best un-capped batsman in the country. Would let him keep in the T20s vs India.

Doubt it will happen though. Mosehle appears to be the designated T20 keeper, and we all know why that is. Although Klaassen could always play just as a batsman.
Hopefully we give new players a chance in the T20s. There are 6 ODIs for a strong squad.

You right, even if as a batsman they give Klaassen his chance.

Mosehle playing one of his knocks now. Looked confused for 30 balls and then let rip off an over from Muthusamy.

Surprised no Shamsi.

Before moving to Titans, in limited overs his appearances were tidy but not impactful. He toiled under the shade of Tahir/Maharaj/Subrayen/Tshabalala. His few S/S games for Dolphins were more successful...

Curious (anomalous?) fact. Worst 50-over averages of full-time bowlers with at least 15 wickets: Harmer 61,0 (!); Shezi 53,2 (going to drop after this game); Piedt 49,5; Wiese 49,3; Paterson 44,3; Philander 44,2 - all are Proteas, though not all in L/Os. [Left out Elgar and Ontong FWIW, as they are batsmen in the main. Surprised Elgar has enough wickets!]

Not really surprised by any of those figures.

Harmer and Piedt definitely better in the longest form of the game.
